Some people like to work in absolute silence but for others, having something stimulating or soothing on in the background can really help. Traditionally that’s been music but lately, there’s been a huge upsurge in people using ‘ambient sound’. Whether that’s the sound of rain, birdsong, a crackling fire or something quite different, you’ll probably be able to find a video on the internet that fulfils your soundscape needs.
My go-to study soundtracks at the moment are from a channel called ASMR Rooms who make intricate soundscapes based on the Harry Potter Universe (oddly enough, the Prefects Bathroom is a particular favourite). If you like music, then Ambient Worlds does the same sort of thing by layering music from the films over suitable sound effects. Piano covers of famous songs or movie soundtracks are also a hit with me and I also have my huge library of jazz and musicals CDs to hand should the mood strike.
So, do you like silence or find that studying ‘to’ something helps? Are you a music person or do you prefer something more organic like a soundscape or white noise? Let us know! Although remember: please don’t link directly to sites outside of HOL and make sure anything you suggest by name is suitable for all ages.
