Diagon Alley Discussion (Week 1)
Prof. Felicia Hartwick replied to Prof. Sky Alton's topic in Platform 9¾ Trivia Trek
Like every family spending the day shopping at Dragon Alley for school supplies, our first stop would be Gringotts Bank to get some money. Once that's done, my first stop would have to be Flourish and Blotts. There is nothing better in the world than going back to school shopping and getting new quills and ink and maybe an are ink pot. And the smell of new parchment has to be the best smell of all time. And when you first put your quill down on a fresh piece of parchment and listen to the sound of the point of the quill scratch across the page is heavenly. Of course, I would have to get my school books, but I would also get some independent reading books for some light reading. Then after a day of shopping we would head over to the Leaky Cauldron for a quick bite to eat. -
Task 13: Lucky Boards
Prof. Felicia Hartwick replied to Prof. Maxim Trevelyan's topic in Exploding Snap
https://imgur.com/a/DlVOB2f One of my favorite things to do is to explore the old local cemeteries and any I stumble upon on vacations. So I'm lucky to be able to find such old, and sometimes family plots. My lucky color is black, (the tree), I always felt black was a formal color and not a scary one. The 3 pine trees and the 2 fence posts represent my family, which I am lucky to call my own. -

In my family we play a game that has been passed down from generation to generation. When I married in to the Hartwick family I learned how to play this card game. The name of it is, Liverpool, why it's named that I don't know, but it is. It's basically a rummy type game, but you need to play with two full decks and 2 Joker cards which are the wild cards. There are 6 hands that are played. The first hand is 2 sets (3 cards of the same number in a set), the second is a set and a run, (a run is 4 cards of the same suit, ex., the 2,3,4,5 of hearts), the third hand is 2 runs, the fourth hand is 3 sets, the fifth hand is 2 sets and 1 run, the last hand is 2 runs, 1 set and no discard. If it's not your turn and you need a card that is thrown out by another player, you can "buy" it, the penalty is that you must take an additional card from the top deck. Score wise, you are trying to have the lowest score at the end of the game to win. Points go as thus... number cards are worth 5 points. The Jacks, Queens and Kings are worth 10 points. Aces are worth 15 points and the Jokers are worth 25. Usually we play or big bucks... 2 cents a hand, and if you have the lowest score at the end, you earn 6 cents from each player.! I know ... shocking! It can get quite competitive, especially if you notice someone is collecting the same cards that you need and you have to begin changing up your hand.

There's a new "sport" at the 2024 Paris Olympics and I', trying to wrap my head around it. It includes "athletic moves, including flips, spins and other complex techniques" set to music. To me that means gymnastics, especially the floor routines... but this year Break Dancing is a Summer Olympic event. This history of break dancing began in the 1970's in New York City. I kind of remember that, and was always amazed how the people moved around. But in the 1990's International competition for this "sport" started and in 2018 it was featured in the Youth Olympic Games. And now fast forward to 2024 and it's now an official event. I guess I'll watch it when it's featured, but to me I still don't understand how it's a "sport'.

I believe I would want to be an airborne creature. Surprisingly I think this odd since I do have a fear of heights, but I do like the idea of soaring through the sky with the wind in my face. Would you rather give the perfect gift or receive it?

Back to the Future! We know what happened in the past, I'd like to see what's the future will hold. Would you rather eat a raw onion or a whole lemon?
-
I would pick being stalked by a giant rubber ducky... this way I could sing Rubber Ducky and the ducky would sing along! Now... would you rather be allergic to chocolate or would you rather be allergic to candy

Task 1: The Annual Broom Race
Prof. Felicia Hartwick replied to Prof. Sky Alton's topic in Exploding Snap
Witches and Wizards, welcome to the, well, I’m not really sure what year of the race is, being that all we really know is that it started sometime in the 10th century. But welcome not the less. For those joining us for the first time, let me give you a little back ground to this race. For many years now, the race has been called “The Annual Broom Race of Sweden”, but in fact, when this race began, Sweden was not even a country. When the addition of the word Sweden was added, there is not record, but I would gather, once the area became know as Sweden, Sweden was added to the name. The race is a 300 mile trek from Kopparberg and Arjeplog, with a fly over one of the most dangerous dragon reservations, home of the very dangerous Swedish-Short Snout dragons. Most of the international racers choose to apparate over the reservation to avoid being seen by the dragons. Though some daredevils welcome being chased by a dragon or two, sadly, most of the time things don’t go well for them. And now, I see this year’s entrants are pushing off the ground and heading to the starting line some hundred of feet into the air. It seems the broom of many is the Quick Silver this year. I am surprised over this because last year’s winner rode the Nimbus 2024 and usually that means everyone wants one outhouse. But I have heard some talk about the Quick Silver Company producing a highly competitive broom that’s able to change directions on a knut, which I can see as a benefit in this race. OK, it looks like we’re ready to go… WAIT! Could it be? *reaches for a pair of Omnioculars and looks through them* Is that, it can’t be, but it is… HOL’s own Professor Dom! Well that would make sense that he would take part in this race, after all he taught classes on dragons during his time at HOL. *a whistle blows and starts the race* “GO GET ‘EM DOM!” -
