Muggles Who Notice - Task 1

Recommended Posts

Though rarely, it does happen that when a Muggle notices aspects of the wizarding world, the event can be too large to hide with a simple Obliviate spell. That’s when the Muggle-Worthy Excuse Committee comes into play. They think up excuses that would explain magical happenings to Muggles.

Your job is just that, make up a Muggle excuse for one of the scenarios below in at least 50 words. While more people can pick the same scenario, your excuses need to be different. All HOL rules apply.

  1. dragon attack
  2. Quidditch fans acting up in a nearby Muggle town
  3. excessive owl activity
  4. Erumpent horn explosion
  5. Mandrakes in a Muggle greenhouse

Post your excuse below by 23:59 HOL-time on 30th November to earn 10 rubies.

3. excessive owl activity;

Due to the decline in Owls in and around the city and more populated areas, a nature preservation group has taken up the liberty to assist the owls in adapting to the environments around them by releasing them near the cities and populated areas themselves. This is a time for people to have patience with the birds until they have found their way and move on to a less populated area. The Owls are being monitored and we ask all citizens to make sure your small pets are safely tucked away until the owls move on for the season. They are safe and will not harm people as long as you don’t taunt them. They may return seasonally purely due to familiarity, and we have their movement and patterns monitored for the preservation of the species of different owls. They will most likely move on quickly due to not finding food within the city areas so we ask people to not feed them and go about your business as usual.

2. Quidditch fans acting up in a nearby muggle town

We understand that there is some concern around a group of unknown people who were recently seen in the town center, with some bystanders saying they saw them performing 'magic' and 'casting spells' at each other. We would like to reassure all residents that this was merely a scheduled event, namely, the Convention For Advanced Magicians. This is simply a meeting of well-practiced party magicians, many of whom have spent so long on their craft that it may appear they can perform 'real' magic, but we would like to assure you that they can not. This event was supposed to take place inside a town hall nearby, and the group in question got lost on their way, since the event had previously never been held outside of London. Apologies for any disturbances or worries caused.

5. Mandrakes in a Muggle greenhouse

The sudden appearance of the unusual plants in the greenhouse is attributed to a special, limited-time display of rare and endangered botanical species. The unique appearance is as part of an international effort to showcase endangered magical flora to raise awareness about conservation. We would also like to inform you that these specific plants have been brought in by a team of expert botanists for a short-term exhibition, aiming to highlight the importance of preserving biodiversity and creating a more environmentally conscious society. The plants' distinct appearance and peculiar cries are part of the characteristics that make them such a captivating and unique addition created especially for this educational event.

1. Dragon Attack

The “Dragon Attack” witnessed at the Norrbotten County was actually a trial run for a new-age drone show which can render a seamless 3D image of a dragon breathing fire. It is a work under progress and the test run was for media coverage and publicity. It was intentionally performed in Norrbotten due to its sparse population to avoid widespread panic. The fact that not one person was harmed is a good enough reason to debunk the false claims that a real Dragon had attacked the place.

Erumpent horn explosion

The mysterious explosion that occurred in the house of one of the most well known families of the town, the Lovegoods, was due to a new type of explosive that takes the form of a horn stuffed with primary explosives. It’s an ingenious design that can easily camouflage in homes because of its decorative appeal. They are highly sensitive to impact, sparks and movement. It seems to be the work of a new gang in the area attempting to terrorise the residents. We ask you to remain calm and vigilant during these trying times. Should you see a horn, do not attempt to remove it or touch it. Immediately call the helpline and evacuate the area. We will dispatch a team to remove and analyze the situation.

1. Dragon Attack

A "dragon" attack occurred late Friday evening as a family had been enjoying their vacation at a local campground. No fatalities have been reported, however several people are now in hospital with minor injuries. The family, staying in their R.V. at the campground, say they were attacked by a "green, scaly" creature, who also had a "long and spiny" tail. Reports say the campground was pitch black, as their campsite was located in the corner of the property, and the street lights did not reach their location. An eye witness heard screaming, along with seeing the "long and spiny" tail the family had reported. No cell phone footage was taken as the family used this vacation to take a break from their busy technology-filled lives. The eye witness reported the scene as "chaotic" yet happened very quickly. Reports that it had been a "dragon" attack soon filled the minds of the victims and witness as no one truly got a good look at the creature. Local authorities are urging residents to use caution when spending time in the wilderness, as crocodiles have been known to inhabit the location in which this attack occurred. They are urging everyone that this is not a dragon attack but simply a case of a crocodile gone made. Medical staff who treated the family are also urging people to be careful around wildlife, as they too believe this was caused by a crocodile.
