The Monster Book of Monsters – Task 2

Recommended Posts

Groove around like a scary ghost

Spooking himself the most

Get it on like an angry spectre

Who's definitely out to get ya'

Oh! Can you dance like a hippogriff?

--- Do the Hippogriff by The Weird Sisters

The Monster Book of Monsters and The Weird Sisters certainly have one thing in common. They both love creatures, the scarier, the merrier. The band even made up several dances for all manner of magical creatures, and some, like a troll, can be found in this book.

Choose one of the creatures in the Monster Book of Monsters and design a dance move for it in at least 80 words. Make sure that it's HOL-appropriate, thank you!

To earn 10 rubies, post your dance moves below by 23:59 HOL-time on the 31st of October.

The dance move 'Sphinx's Riddle' was created to capture the spirit of a Sphinx. The critical point in the dance move is to be mindful of one's posture, ensuring you stand tall to mimic a Sphinx's regal posture. One would then sweep out their arms in front of them as if to present a riddle to the audience, then complete a half-turn to remain watchful of the viewers, as a Sphinx would stay on guard, then a few shuffling steps of a show of footwork to complete the dance.

One creature in the book is Manticore. It has a human head, a lion's body, and a scorpion's tail with a venomous sting. It has pincers, antennae, and stingers, and can shoot fire like a fire crab. The dance move inspired by it is known as the "Stinger step". One darts forward once with their hands and fingers curled like claws as if attacking a victim in the style of a manticore and their tongue out as if shooting fire, then swifty turns sideways to shake their back to the rhythm of music like a manticore attempting to sting its victim with its rear end. Unlike the graceful ballet- like moves suggested by River, this is likely to be part of a hip-hop dance or dance to an upbeat music.
