  1. It’s my privilege and pleasure to announce the Gryffindor awards for the autumn term! Before I begin, I just have to say that this was the most difficult term to judge I’ve had since joining the staff (and I’m not just saying that to be polite). We currently have so many talented, enthusiastic and hardworking lions that it was a struggle to narrow it down. If you missed out on an award this term, please don’t be disheartened: trust me, we see and value each and every one of you who contributes or makes an effort to brighten up the CR. If you keep it up, hopefully we’ll be honouring you with a shiny trophy next term. Let’s start with our points based awards: The Platinum Quill award goes to @Iverian Gnash! This award goes to the Gryffindor who earned the most house points and with a staggering 2278 (509 points ahead of the 2nd place earner), Iverian absolutely knocked it out of the park this term. The Phoenix Award goes to @Lora Wallabenger! This award is given to the Gryffindor with the highest number of rubies and with a solid 277 earned over many of our activities this term, Lora is a very worthy winner. The Lionheart award goes to @Maxim Trevelyan! This award is given to the visitor with the highest number of rubies. Yet again, our friend from Ravenclaw has shown he is the master at gathering sparkly red jewels as he racked up a staggering 927 for his efforts over the course of the term. Congratulations! Now for the awards decided by Gryffindor Staff: The Studious Simba award goes to @Lizzi Long and @Narcissus Delmenia! We award this trophy to those lions who distinguish themselves through hard work in their classes and potentially in other places. We couldn’t pick between Lizzi (who earned 1189 points) and Narcissus (1142) and decided that both deserved recognition for their truly impressive performances. The Curious Kitten award goes to @Lora Wallabenger! This award is for someone who has been an encouraging, constructive or heartening presence in the CR. Lora went out of her way to welcome newcomers to The Den this term and has certainly raised our spirits with her exuberant personality and undeniable spirit. The Consistent Cub award goes to @Lorainia Riverrider! This award is for a lion who is everywhere, doing everything and inspires us all to get involved. Lorainia not only earned 1339 points (the third most points out of all Gryffindor this term), but has also found the time to throw herself into activities all around the castle. Not only has she inspired us with her activity but left many of us wondering just where she gets her energy from. The Lively Lionet goes to @Raevia Ward! This award is for someone who displays great pride and loyalty to the house. While she might not be the loudest or top in points, Raevia has been a friendly and diligent presence throughout the term. Her courage to try new things and her positive attitude reflect well not only on her but on Gryffindor too. The Exploding Snap award goes to @Prof. Dario Brighton! This award is given to someone who makes the CR a better place through their innovative ideas. As Dario essentially keeps the CR (and all of HOL) running, we’re always trying to nominate him for this award. As he designed the scoring system and beautiful cards for our wildly successful Exploding Snap activity, set up webmail and built a new website for the house newspaper, we couldn’t let him turn it down this term. That’s it for awards for now but I just want to reiterate how proud we all are of everyone who did their bit to support the house. Keep up the amazing work, lions!
  2. Ahg hard. Sunset is my favourite time of day and I'd love to fly but I also love shiny things. I suppose the dragon because it'd be a better lasting memory than lots of material things. Would you rather make decisions entirely by yourself without being able to ask for advice or always have to listen to many people's opinions before you could make a choice?
  3. Guilty. Mostly for HOL reasons Started randomly singing out loud in public
  4. Welcome to the spring term! Gryffindor is doing amazingly in the cup standings this year! Not only could we end our years long curse of always coming 4th but we might even stand a chance of doing better than that. But for either of those things to hhappen, we need every single active Gryffindor student to do their part and help us earn those points. However much you can contribute, it all counts. So, in that spirit, here are the point earning opportunities currently on offer around the castle. The Gryffindor Paw Print is back and looking for your articles, graphics, opinions and many other things. The theme this time is 'improvement' so we're looking for articles about life hacks that have improved your life, any craft/upcycling/ DIY projects you might have done (or just admire) and inspirational advice. We're always happy to accept things that fall outside the theme too. Be sure to check out Prose and Cons for something a little more creative. You can earn 90 points in all across submissions and Prose and Cons so be sure to stop by the Quivering Quill Forum for details! Deadline: February 26th The Art and Library Departments are ready to receive your submissions on 4 fresh new projects. If you're feeling artistic, then Art has you covered with a trip to a magical zoo and an exploration of beloved objects. The Library is getting motivational with inspirational speeches and wondering what might happen if a Harry Potter character was able to change one decision they'd made. You can earn 20 points in each Department simply by submitting to both projects with an additional 20 each up for grabs. Deadline: 29 February Down in the Dungeons, The Serpentimes is also open for submissions! Sharpen your mind and hone your concentration for this 'focus' themed issue. Remember to check out Exclusives for a fun and straightforward extra 40 points as well. That's another 90 points in total for the earning! Deadline: 15th March More Details: http://www.dungeons.org.uk/forum/index.php?/forum/161-serpentimes/
  5. The easiest way to help out your house and show your lion’s pride is to earn points! There are lots of ways you can do this so you’re bound to find some that play to your strengths. In this post, I’ll give you a brief run-down of the regular point earning opportunities available to you. Whenever a new one opens up throughout the term, I’ll post it as a reply so keep checking back! The first and most obvious is to take part in classes. Most classes will give you the chance to earn 60 points a month through homework and extra credit. If you take several classes (even if you don’t have the time for the maximum of 5 every term), those 60 points soon mount up to quite a tidy haul. Class sign-up opened on the 1st of February 2020 and will remain open until May 20th so remember to put your name down for the classes that interest you and get sending in that homework! (It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the individual assignment deadlines so that you don’t run out of time or put too much pressure on yourself) The next are the creative projects offered each month by the Hol Library and art department. If you enjoy getting artsy or brushing up on your writing, visit the 'Departments' tab on the main website. Don't be shy: your submissions are anonymous during the rating period. You can get started by going to your profile and telling us 'How I Got Into Harry Potter' in the designated section - that will earn you a cool 10 points! Finally there are the house newspapers. These are a great chance to earn plenty of points by writing about what interests you. If articles and reviews aren’t your thing, most also offer creative prompts and even the chance to submit your own puzzles, recipes, graphics and many other things. All of them have different windows for submitting so be sure to check The Great Hall on the Hol Forum and the Common Rooms for announcements from the editors of each (I’ll be doing my best to keep you clued up about the deadlines for all of them here too). The most important thing to remember is that whenever you have some spare time to get journalistic, you’re almost certain to find a home for what you come up with. Brows old editions of our own Paw Print: https://gryff.net/pawprint Slytherin’s SerpenTimes: http://holserpentimes.weebly.com/ Ravenclaw’s Alte Sententiam: http://altesententiam.weebly.com/ And Hufflepuff’s Wizarding Times: http://padfootsportkey.us/Wizarding-Times Throughout the term, there will be unique and exciting activities to take part in which will give you the chance to earn points along the way. Remember to check my replies to this thread for announcements and reminders about anything that might be occurring!
  6. Lucky for sure. There isn't really anyone I want to turn into. Would you rather be a house elf or a goblin?
  7. I spotted the boggart while I was taking a walk in the grounds. It took the form of a mean swan but after the charm, it turned into a fluffy chick with a lot of attitude. (genuinely feared swans and geese for many years. Over it now.... or am I?)
  8. I don't really use the little vision I have left so I'm happy to give that up. ;) Would you rather be a guest at 12 Grimmauld Place or Malfoy Manor?
  9. Happy birthday to a HOL Gryffindor institution, Prof. Zenix James! Zee, I hope you have an amazing day full of fun and chaos.
  10. Classes are open! Happy spring term, lions. Let's continue our amazing progress and make this a year to remember. Go earn those points!

I just wanted to say that since joining hol as an 'ickle firstie' in September, I have had such a great time and learned such a lot. Thank you so much to profs, prefects, students of all houses and everyone who make hol such a great and safe place to be, and for all the time, effort and commitment that is always put into it.

Aww, thank you, Emerald. It's always lovely when someone notices and acknowledges the care that a lot of people put in to keep things ticking over. HOL wouldn't be HOL without people enjoying it and making that work worthwhile though so by being here and valuing what's on offer, you're contributing hugely too.

Thank you, Sky, that is so very kind of you to say.  :)

  11. I slap Emerald for being so nice I don't want to slap her.
  12. Tricky question. I know if it were me I'd be super tempted to change things to address old injustices. But if there's one thing popular culture has taught us, it's that messing with time gets... well, messy. It would be fun to have an 'undo my last action' button with this power so you could gage the result of what you changed and put it back to how it was if it proved disastrous.
  13. I slap Emerald for earning enough quills to graduate to second year.
