  1. Question 18: This dramatist wrote plays called A Doll's House and Peer Gynt
  2. I slap Rose because she ought to take a break from studying.
  3. Question 17: This show is a classic musical about the French Revolution
  4. Question 16: Buffalo, leap shuffle and the shim sham shimmy are all moves belonging to which kind of dance?
  5. Sky considers pulling a face, remembers that she's Head of House, thinks better of it and covers it up as a yawn. "You know," she says, placing a finger on her nose, " I am looking for some people to decant some bags of dragon dung into containers for me. I wonder who I could recruit for such a wonderful extra duty." She glances away to hide her smile. "Anyway, my first class is second period," she informs Maxim, "I thought I'd go down early to see whether the Screechsnaps have germinated yet or not. Although perhaps I'd better stop by Gryffindor tower first to check for missing shiny objects..."
  6. Phew. I’ve just spent 15 minutes trying to get green paint off the sleeve of my robes (what do you mean I’ve got some purple in my hair as well? Ahg.). Anyway, as you can tell, designing and making the scenery isn’t quite going to plan. Do you think you could lend a hand? For this task, we’re asking you to design a piece of scenery to help dress the stage. This includes things like backdrops, walls and the like that are painted to look like the location the story takes place in. They can range from realistic to totally off the wall. You could choose to do a bit of scenery from the story you wrote about for the writers room task, one for another story altogether or something more generic, it’s up to you. Just let us know what it is when you post. You can either do this as a graphic or by describing your piece of scenery in 80 words or more. For 15 rubies, please post your response as a reply by the 30th of September, 11:59 PM HOL-time Now, I need to go find out who’s tracked yellow footprints everywhere….
  7. Magic is a real advantage when it comes to staging theatricals (just think, if muggle productions want to have someone fly they have to rely on harnesses and wires!). We can let our imaginations run wild and create spellbinding illusions that will really bring the show to life. Unfortunately, things can still go very wrong. The last time Hogwarts staged a show, actors began dueling on stage and an magically enlarged ashwinder caused a conflagration. The Headmaster is anxious to avoid something like that happening again so has asked us to do a full risk assessment, accounting for everything (and he means everything) that could go wrong and lead him having to write letters to angry parents. I could use your help… For this task, please come up with two ways we could use magic in the show and describe how we could use it. For each, explain any risks attached to using it and any safety precautions we should take. Your assessment should be at least 100 words long (if you’re really struggling to meet the word count, then you can do a third use of magic). For 15 rubies, please post your response as a reply by the 30th of September, 11:59 PM HOL-time
  8. That's fine, providing you only do it with members you know for sure won't mind.
  9. Question 14: Which actress who played Viola, Lady Macbeth and Cleopatra once said "Appearing in Shakespeare means more than money."
  10. Welcome to the Den, Annie :)
  11. How's term going for everyone so far?

    1. Rose Pottermore

      Rose Pottermore

Great!!! I am almost done with 2 classes.

    2. Manya Granger
    3. Raevia Ward

      Raevia Ward

So far so good! Loving the event of the month. How're things going for you?

  12. "Thanks for the book, Rose. You're so sweet!" Sky exclaims, tucking it into an inner pocket of her robes. "How was everyone's summer? Did anyone do anything interesting? Go on any adventures?" She looks about her, glancing towards the top table where the other professors are sitting. She's starving but can't go and sit down until all these time tables are handed out. Guiltily, she sneaks a piece of toast from a nearby rack and munches on it as she checks her list of students.
  13. We're already 10 days into term. Have you picked your classes yet? I know some particularly enthusiastic souls are already busy turning huge amounts of homework in (go you!). If you haven't started yet though, don't worry. Remember that term is a marathon not a sprint. You have plenty of time: relax and enjoy it. If you're looking for something to do that isn't homework (while still earning some glory for Gryffindor) then HOL already has some very tempting options. Stop by the Departments and check out this months projects. The Library Department are inviting you to imagine what your application would look like were you ever to go for the job of Hogwarts professor and then to play swapsies with Harry Potter characters. The Art Department are decking out Platform 9 3/4 in decorations to celebrate the new school year and asking you to depict your favourite chapter from the HP books in image form. Points Available: A maximum of 80 (you can get 40 just for joining in) Deadline: September 30th for Art and October 1st for Library And now some updates from HOL's various newsrooms. Each house newspaper gives you the chance to earn 50 points from regular submissions (like articles, puzzles, recipes, graphics etc) and an 40 by completing their extra challenges. That's 90 points per paper and with 3 papers open for submissions right now that's a whole lot of points (270, if you want to get technical). The Alte Sententiam is almost as fun to say as it is to submit to. It's Ravenclaws paper and they can't wait to receive your submissions. If you have an idea for an article, get in contact with Gail Allen. Check out their Legendary Drabble Babble and Creative Writing Bingo challenges over in The Great Hall on the main forum. Deadline: 30th September Have you paid a visit to the Dungeons yet? Well, their newspaper, the SerpenTimes, is open for business. This issue's theme is Snake Eyes and they can't wait to see what you make of it. Remember to check out the SerpenTimes Exclusives as well for the chance to snag an easy additional 40 points. You'll find all the info you need over in the SerpenTimes forum on the Slytherin Common Room. Deadline: 15th October And last (but by certainly no means least) there's our very own purrr-fect publication, The Paw Print. We're getting into the swing of a new term with a theme of 'Patterns and Rhythms' (though we'll accept any submissions whether they're related to the theme or not). We also have Prose and Cons where you can snag yourself some extra points by captioning pictures, creating a leonine list or indulging in a spot of creative writing. so make sure you quick step your way over to the Quivering Quill and tell us what you'd like to write! Deadline: 23rd October However you're spending your September, I hope it's magical!
  14. To prepare for opening night, let’s try a spot of improv! This is a type of theatre where you have to make up something on the spot based on a suggestion or some other form of inspiration. It can get very wild and fun. Our improv game is simple. The person who posted just before you will give you a Harry Potter character and an event. Your job is to decide what that character would say if confronted by that event (the event can be as serious or silly as you like and please do use muggle ones as well as wizarding ones). Then you leave another character and event for the next person to run with. For example: Person 1: You are Bellatrix Lestrange and you’ve just missed the bus. Person 2: “I will destroy all muggle buses and dance on their smouldering remains for this indignity!” You’re Luna Lovegood and you’re ordering a coffee… And so on You’ll earn 2 rubies per post for your first 5 posts. Please wait for someone else to respond before posting again and make sure you remember to include the character/event for the next person. So, to begin… You’re Professor McGonagall and someone has just managed to transfigure their friend into a kangaroo in your lesson.
  15. I slap Carrie for picking a study spot that involves climbing so many steps. I'm so out of breath I'm not even sure I have energy to slap you.
  16. Passion (Anyone else remember Bratz? Just me?)
  17. That would depend entirely on what the moon was doing at the time. But guilty, if it was safe. Has claimed to have watched or read something when they haven't
