  5. We're already over half way through February! There are a few ways to get your point collecting off to a good start this term. First things first, classes. Have you signed up for the ones you like the look of yet? Remember, even if you can only fit 1 into your schedule, every single point is valuable. If you're looking to flex your creative muscles, hot foot it over to the departments. The Art Department are off on a trip to a fantastical forest and then looking for some warmth in the cold. The library are all loved up and chatting to cupid, while also playing match maker for some unlikely Harry Potter couples. Art Deadline: 1st of March Library Deadline: 15th of March
  6. The easiest way to help out your house and show your lion’s pride is to earn points! There are lots of ways you can do this so you’re bound to find some that play to your strengths. In this post, I’ll give you a brief run-down of the regular point earning opportunities available to you. Whenever a new one opens up throughout the term, we’ll post it as a reply so keep checking back! The first and most obvious is to take part in classes. All classes will give you the chance to earn 300 points in a term through homework and extra credit. If you take several classes (even if you don’t have the time for the maximum of 5 every term), those homework points soon mount up to quite a tidy haul. Class sign-up opened on 1st February 2022 and will remain open until May 20th so remember to put your name down for the classes that interest you and get sending in that homework! (It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the individual assignment deadlines so that you don’t run out of time or put too much pressure on yourself) The next are the creative projects offered each month by the Library and art departments. If you enjoy getting artsy or brushing up on your writing, visit the 'Departments' tab on the main website. Don't be shy: your submissions are anonymous during the rating period. You can get started by going to your profile and telling everyone 'How you Got Into Harry Potter' in the designated section - that will earn you a cool 10 points! Finally there's the HOL Newspaper. This is a great chance to earn plenty of points by writing about what interests you. If articles and reviews aren’t your thing, it will also offer creative prompts and the chance to submit your own puzzles, graphics and more. Keep an eye on the Newspaper section of the main HOL Forum for updates about the latest issue. https://hol.org.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=612 Throughout the term, there will be unique and exciting activities to take part in which will give you the chance to earn points along the way. Remember to check the replies to this thread for announcements and reminders about anything that might be occurring!
  7. If you could pick just one day-to-day activity to accomplish with magic, which would it be? For me, I really can't be bothered drying my hair. Being able to tackle it with a quick wand wave would be fabulous. Anyone else have an everyday pet peeve they wish they could just 'whooosh' away with a handy spell?
  8. I slap Emerald because dang she earned so many points last term. Amazing work.
  9. Strange tendrils of steam curl through the air. The dungeon is alive with the sounds of chopping, pouring and grinding as everyone gets to work. You crowd a little closer to the fire under the nearest cauldron, aware of just how chilly it is down here tonight. The situation: An all-school potion challenge is underway. Everyone who wants to enter has been tasked with making a particular potion, chosen at random for each person. Are you here to show off your brewing prowess? Or just to watch the action? Location: You can only roleplay in the dungeon being used for the challenge. Take a look at the guidelines before diving in. Have fun!
  10. We’re bidding farewell to one term and welcoming in the next, so it must be time to hand out some shiny awards! Before I do though, I’d like to take a moment to appreciate each and every lion who earned points, explored the castle or joined in here in The Den. It’s been a great term, full of individual achievements of all different kinds and you’ve all contributed massively to Gryffindor. Whatever you got up to, I hope you had a magical time! First up is the award for the person who earned the most house points in a term, the Platinum Quill. I’m delighted to award it to first year @Luna Lemongrass who has earned an incredible 1252 points in her first term at HOL! Tremendous work, Luna. Next up are those awards we hand out to the people (one Gryff, one guest) who have managed to collect the most rubies here in The Den during the term. The Phoenix award goes to the fabulous @Raevia Ward who has boldly leapt into the activities on offer this term and netted a very respectable haul of 264. Scooping himself yet another well-deserved Lionheart award is @Maxim Trevelyan of Ravenclaw with an astonishing 900. Well done, both! Then there are the awards decided by the Gryffindor staff: The Studious Simba is presented to someone for exemplary hard work in their classes. @Avery Hill is an exceedingly worthy winner for the autumn term with admirable efforts in all of the subjects they took on. The Curious Kitten is awarded to someone who has been a positive and uplifting presence around The Den. @Luna Lemongrass earns a second award for her irresistible cheeriness and eagerness to try things out (all while finding the time to earn all those points!) The Consistent Cub is awarded to someone who has been all over the castle, doing everything. @Kelly Hickory has truly demonstrated the adventurous spirit of Gryffindor this term by trying her hand at everything from department projects to HOL-wide activities. Now, let’s crack open the butterbeer!
  11. Which are you taking? Class signups have just opened! Which did you pick? Are you struggling to narrow it down? Any you're particularly looking forward to taking? We'd love to know.

  13. And the 10th and final question: In Sirius's note on the back of the enchanted mirror that he gifted to Harry, what did he say he and James used them for? Remember you have until tomorrow (30th January) at 11:59 PM HOL-time to get your answers in!
  14. Question 9: What spell did Harry focus on for the first D.A session?
