  1. The Archies [your words might have been changed because there is a thing which monitors for a certain word which starts with c and ends with 'ute' --my email had this in it: death to the c-word] ? ]
  2. the sound of an empty jug ... I'm thinking of something which might be found nestled against a fallen tree ...
  3. AWWwwwwWW (is that counted as a word?) otherwise - pretty kitty!
  4. oliphant (I'm in a LoTR mood, what can I say! :D )
  5. Heck. I would be a companion of one of the founders. Maybe the one who started up the Care of Magical Creatures. *nods* That's a picture of me in one of the portraits, screaming advice and encouragement! \o/
  6. Happy Birthday, Amanda! I wish you a magical and happy day. :)
  7. I decided to look up what those characteristics 'say' because when writing up what I wrote, I found that I feel that people in all the Houses are all having all the qualities in them -- but some are more emphasized than others. I'm using this (below, found here http://www.spiritual-knowledge.net/articles/fire-water-air-earth.php ) as a reference guide. I'm not saying I agree with it completely, but it serves better than most I found online. (I'm also not going to argue one way or another about what is listed in it. Like I said, I'm not saying I agree with it completely but using it as a pointer for this discussion.) The element of fire -- Positive qualities: vigorousness, zeal, enthusiasm, courage, decisiveness, power of creativity, daring, sedulity... Negative qualities: quarrelsomeness, irritability, urge to destroy everything, passion, immoderacy, jealousy, voraciousness, vindictiveness, violence, hate, anger, sudden ebullition... The element of air -- Positive qualities: vigilance, care-freedom, kind-heartedness, trusting nature, clarity, lightness, independency, dexterity, optimism, diligence, acuity, joy, smiling... Negative qualities: lack of perseverance, dishonesty, gossipy, cunningness, backbiting, garrulousness, inconstancy, touchiness, prodigality... The element of water -- Positive qualities: understanding, placidity, mildness, trusting nature, devotion, mercy, forgiveness, modesty, compassion, fervour, pliancy, meditativeness, internalization... Negative qualities: indifference, heartlessness, laziness, indolence, rigidity, lack of daring, lack of concern, unstableness, dejection... The element of earth -- Positive qualities: consistency, conscientiousness, perseverance, punctuality, caution, resistance, responsibility, carefulness, firmness, reliability, sobriety, ambition, respectfulness, matter-of-factness... Negative qualities: stuffiness, superficiality, laziness, indifference, cumbersomeness, touchiness, lack of conscientiousness, irregularity, timidity, scornfulness... So the Houses, in the order of which they have traits -- this is the 'traditional' thing, I think -- Hufflepuff - earth Slytherin - water Ravenclaw - air Gryffindor - fire But that is very limiting because there are also aspects of the other elements to consider. But after that? It's hard to say. I think most of the people in the Houses are of all qualities. Also something to consider is what aspects of the qualities are they exhibiting? **** Also - when I first saw this topic, and just going by the title, I immediately thought -- Hufflepuff is GOLD. :D
  8. gules, a saltire cotised, Or My heraldic device - shown on a shield! Gules is red, the background colour. A 'saltire' is the X, much like a bold X in typing. 'Cotised' is the faint lines shadowing the X. Or is gold. So the background is a strong red colour. Over laid on that is a golden X (the arms of which go to the upper corners of the shield), which would be clearly discernible across a field (or in battle). The 'Cotised' is faint lines to the sides of all parts of the X, with a definite showing of red between the gold X of the saltire and the gold shadowing of the cotise. And I was so busy reading the coat of arms, and explaining it,I forgot the write-up. About me - I love history. If ever I wanted to teach another class, it would maybe be on heraldry, the background of it, the whys and wherefores of it, and how it has continued on to this day -- and folks don't even realize it! I particularly love to read history as written by others than those who were, apparently, on the 'winning' side. Or books written from different points of view than what I'd been 'taught' in school. I've a schoolbook, published in 1892 -- A History of The United States of America. Intended for students in schools, academies, colleges, universities and at home, and for general readers - by Robert Reed Howison -- and it is quite amazing to read what this person writes about the Civil War (War Between the States) in the United States. It definitely tells a different story than the books I read in school. Terry Jones (of Monty Python fame but who also is a notable historian) and Alan Ereira wrote Crusades (they also made a BBC TV series of the same name), which has documentation from all viewpoints -- and which casts the 'crusaders' in a totally different light than some of the books I've read and the movies churned out by Hollywood (and other like sources) .
  9. A bullfrog? I've thinking of something which is both pale and fluffy but also cold and damp.
  10. 10 things of personal stuff -- not necessarily in order 1) 3 favorite books - box of books 2) knitting supplies - box containing knitting supplies (see below) 3) music & equipment on which to play it - box of music 4) swiss army knife 5) carrier bag (a small cross body bag for 'stuff') 6) blueberries in an ever-fresh frozen bag (see below) 7) sword (hand-and-a-half sword) 8) Neverwhere map 9) 3 favorite movies and equipment on which to play them (see below) 10) Kwan Yin statue 1) Three favorite books -- what can I say? The only difficulty there will be narrowing it down to three. Currently one will be Neverwhere, another The Silvered and probably another will be either a Dresden Files book or Shadowhunter Academy (or that entire series) or Mercedes Thompson books (including the Alpha and Omega books) ... *sneaks in more books* *changes on list to BOX of books* 2) Knitting supplies -- I knit very slowly. So this means that I'll put in two sets of circular needles and maybe 6 skeins of yarn and that will last me until Christmas holidays most likely. - Box of that too 3) Well, yeah. Music. Mostly sound tracks ... and they don't take up much space ... so adding in some Chanticleer and other things and .. - put in Box. 4) Swiss army knife. I use it a lot and carry it with me everywhere anyway, so it probably wouldn't go in the trunk. But it's a 'must have'. 5) My carrier bag, too, I always have with me when away from home; sort of automatically put it in. It's not all that large but holds little things like paper and pen and knife and stuff. 6) blueberries. In a 'freezer' box. A box of blueberries. A box with an undetectable extension charm on it so I can have lots and lots of blueberries. 7) I just like having my sword with me. Don't know how she will fit in the trunk though but that's okay. I'll figure it out. 8) Neverwhere map. Easy to roll up. 9) Okay, by now I realize that 3 favorite movies is impossible so let's just make it another box. Probably all of these boxes have undetectable extension charms on them. They probably all weigh at least 20 pounds and the one with the books weighs about 50 pounds. Oh well. Bales of hay weigh 140 pounds. OH! Use a Feather-light charm! GOT IT! 10) Kwan Yin statue. Because ... picture is of statue of Kwan Yin - ceramic - of lilac/blue glaze
