  3. Hello new (or returning) Gryffindors and HOLers! I would like to welcome you to our House on the behalf of the entire Gryffindor staff. The purpose of this post is to try to answer questions you may have about our House and explain how the House operates. If this post is unable to provide a satisfactory answer to your question, you can click here to be taken to the Question and Answer section of this forum where our friendly staff will help you. Let's begin then! :D WHAT IS GRYFFINDOR Gryffindor is a part of HOL Virtual Hogwarts and it is subject to all its rules and regulations. You must own an HOL account to be able to sign up for Gryffindor. Aside from this forum, Gryffindor is in charge of the IRC channels #gryffindor and #gqt on the irc.blitzed.org server. All rules apply there too. The channels are moderated by the Gryffindor staff (called OPs - people with an @ symbol before their name). For more information about IRC or any other section of HOL, please make sure to refer to the appropriate HOL Handbook section here. HOL and Gryffindor are in no way directly associated with Warner Bros or J. K. Rowling. REGISTERING FOR THE FORUM In order to become a member of this community, you will have to sign up using this form. You will be prompted for a username, email and password. You will also be required to complete our security checks for the purpose of spam prevention. You are required to use your HOL name as your username. The spacing and capitalisation must match as well. If it were my student self who was signing up the following usernames would be wrong and rejected: dario, Dario1110, DarioBrighton, dario.brighton, etc. The only acceptable option would be Dario Brighton. The email you provide must also match your HOL records. Make sure you pick a complex enough and secure password. If you forget your password at any time there is a 'forgot password' link located on the sign in page. Our administrators go through every application individually and then grant or refuse access to the board based on whether your username and email match your HOL records. Once your application is reviewed, its status will be posted here along with any notes about why if it had to be rejected. TOUR OF THE DEN We try to keep things as exciting as possible by offering a variety of things to do. Our staff will often organise a month-long activity for you to sink your teeth into. That doesn't just mean lions either: we like to invite all HOLers to join in on the fun! If there is an upcoming or ongoing activity, it will be located under the Current Activities category on the main page of the forum. When there are no month-long activities, you should explore our recurring activities such as Gone Questing or the mini games in Peeves' Place. If you fancy a discussion with the lions or want to introduce yourself, the Fat Lady's Portrait is the perfect place for you! Any personal wishes or notices can be posted in the area labelled as Sir Nick's Notices. For those of you who are more oriented towards your magical studies here at Hogwarts (or those of you who need advice on how to earn points and battle for the House Cup), Madam Pince's Board is the right place for you. If you like to get creative, our bi-monthly newspaper, The Paw Print, is accepting submissions and the headquarters can be found in The Quivering Quill forum. Our Quidditch team lockerrooms are located in the Cubs with Clubs forum, why not show your support or even try your hand at Quidditch while you're there? (Lions only for that very last one, I'm afraid!) Finally, our staff will use the Announcements forum to relay any news or changes, so it is always good to keep an eye on that. PERSONAL INFORMATION You must comply with HOL's stance on privacy (found in the Code of Conduct and expanded upon in The Privacy Policy). Both HOL and Gryffindor discourage giving out private information, be it in your profile or an official channel on IRC. This is especially important if you are a minor. Personal information includes your real name, exact location, your workplace, name of your school, name of your city/town, phone number, address and so on. You MUST NOT divulge any personal information about another person either, whether or not they're a member of HOL. If there is anyone who is asking you to divulge personal information, immediately contact a prefect or a professor. There is a section on your profile called Location. If you must enter something, please put only your country, province or state, but no towns! AVATARS AND SIGNATURES Your avatar must not be larger than 100 by 100 pixels and it must not be smaller than 50 by 50 pixels. Please remember to keep them HOL appropriate! Your signature may contain only one image which should not be larger than 250 pixels in width and 100 pixels in height. You are allowed to use animated images. Your signature should not contain more than 4 lines of text. Any links that are not HOL related are strictly forbidden. Also, please do not go overboard with the text. Anything that can be considered spam or inappropriate will be removed immediately and further sanctions will be in effect. INAPPROPRIATE CONTENT We define spam to be any post or content that does not contribute to the topic or is irrelevant. That includes posting big pictures, one word responses or excessive use of repeated letters and symbols. Another form of spam is replying to many threads at once or posting to those that have not been updated in a long period of time. Seeing as HOL and Gryffindor are open to all ages, genders, nations, identities, orientations and beliefs, it is one of our most strict policies to enforce a safe environment for all our members. Any sort of discrimination is punishable. Explicit or sexual materials and language are not permitted. WARNINGS AND SANCTIONS Moderators of the forums, which include professors and prefects, interact with students and must enforce rules. When rules are broken, consequences must take place. If infractions occur, the following measures will be taken. First offence - warning via PM. Second offence - final warning and points deduction. Third offence - being banned or expelled. For more severe infractions, a first offence may be treated as the second offence.
  4. Rubies are Gryffindor’s internal points: you’ll earn them for taking part in activities and generally being active around the den. For each Ruby you add to your personal hourglass, you’ll earn yourself a bean over on the main HOL site. In addition, you’ll also have the chance to vie for our very shiny termly awards for highest ruby count. Both Gryffindors and visitors can earn Rubies through activities. Gryffindors will also have the chance to earn them through actions that support the House, such as Quidditch practice and the like. Only Gryffindor staff have the power to award Rubies. The number of Rubies you’ve earned during the current term will be displayed beneath your name on the Common Room and also on your profile. In addition, you’ll also be able to check the Ruby standings on the main page where the top earners are displayed. The Ruby count will reset every term: any Rubies you earn over the summer will be added to your total for the next term. At the end of each term (autumn and spring), the prestigious awards I mentioned earlier will be awarded: the Phoenix Award for the Gryffindor with the highest number of rubies and The Lionheart Award for our top earning visitor. To be in with a chance of scooping one, you’ll need to have your ear to the ground for Gryffindor goings-on and be as active as possible around the Common Room. Good luck!
  5. To make sure that members of this forum are genuine students of HOL, new accounts have to be approved by an administrator before being able to post or gain access to certain forums. This can take a few days. Every time registration approvals are done, I will post here with a list of the accounts that have been approved and granted full access to the forum. I will also mention the names of accounts I have had to reject along with the reason why I had to do so. Common reasons for rejection are: You’re not registered on HOL You didn’t use your HOL name as your username You didn’t use the same email address to sign up here as you did on HOL (this is key as it’s the only way I have of being sure that the two accounts belong to the same person and not somebody stealing a username.) If your account is rejected, please rectify the highlighted issue before trying again.
  6. In this post, you'll find the current staff of Gryffindor House and what positions they hold. You can also consult our guide down below if you have a matter you need to raise with one of us, but want to make sure you approach the right person! CHAIN OF COMMAND In order to provide an organised system of splitting concerns, Gryffindor operates on a chain-of-command hierarchy. The chain of command is as follows. Student → Junior Prefect / Prefect / Club Head → Prefect in Charge / Deputy Head of House → Head of House OUR STAFF Right now, we do not have any Junior Prefects. Our team of Prefects include @Iverian Gnash and @Sky Alton, who is also the Prefect in Charge. Gryffindor Professors include @Prof. Jenny Lupin, @Prof. Zenix James and @Prof. Dario Brighton, who is also the Head of the House. WHOM TO CONTACT Junior Prefects and Prefects are your first port of call. They're here to help organise events and keep the house a safe, fun environment. If you're having an issue with someone or something in the house, please raise it with either a Junior Prefect or a Prefect. Even if they don't think they can deal with it, they will pass it on to the right people higher up in the chain of command. Also, if you have an idea for Gryffindor, please pass that along to a Junior Prefect or a Prefect as they're always looking to work with students to improve the House. If you feel an issue is particularly serious or you aren't comfortable discussing it with a Prefect, please approach the Head of House: he will liaise with other authorities within HOL when/if appropriate. @Prof. Jenny Lupin and @Patrick James are our Quidditch Captains - they're your best bet for anything broom related. @Prof. Zenix James handles our house Newspaper.
  7. If you have any questions about Gryffindor or the Common Room, post it here for one of our staff members to answer. More sensitive issues should be taken directly to a prefect or myself, depending on the severity. Should a question be unsuitable for public discussion it may be removed and we'll contact you privately. Remember to check for an answer in the HOL Handbook and the rest of the pinned threads in this forum, as well as the Ask a Prefect section on the main HOL Forum before posting here.
  8. I know the End of Year Feast is behind us, but we are not quite done until we take a moment to acknowledge the people who have contributed to our proud House. With the most House Points earned we have @Iverian Gnash, who collected 1,963 House Points for our House in the previous term. To her we present the Platinum Quill Award. Not only has she collected the most House Points, she’s also the Gryffindor who managed to collect the most Rubies, which earns her the Phoenix Award! Well done! Speaking of Rubies, one of our non-Gryffindor friends managed to collect a total 411 Rubies for the term. Well done @Maxim Trevelyan for earning the Lionheart Award. Thank you for hanging out in our Common Room. The Gryffindor House values hard work. On that note, I would like to present the Studious Simba Award to @Lizzi Long for her school and class-related efforts. Next on is the Exploding Snap Award, which coincidentally goes to one of the main backers of the Exploding Snap activity, @Iverian Gnash. Iverian has contributed a lot to Gryffindor even outside of her duties as member of staff. Having said that, I would also like to congratulate her on being promoted to a Prefect. Well deserved! Last, but definitely not least, I am delighted to present an award which is a true honour here in Gryffindor: The Pride of the Pride. For her immeasurable effort and contributions, for her positive attitude, true Gryffindor spirit and unquestionable loyalty to the House, the Pride of the Pride Award is presented to our @Sky Alton. Thank you!
  9. I'll mostly listen to whatever is on the charts or on the radio, so I don't have a favourite as my music world doesn't revolve that much around contemporary music. If the question were about my favourite artist, then I'd definitely have to go for Bach. Just so I don't stray away from the topic, I'll admit that I was forced into listening to Kpop and that BTS is my guilty pleasure.
  10. I'd much rather be able to only whisper. Would you rather be able to only talk in rhymes or have to sing everything you say?
  11. I started with a piece of jewellery or an accessory, so that can be the theme, but the beauty of the game is that we can fluidly craft and thread a theme as we progress through a letter rather than indicate specific ones. Cheers!
