Task 10: Controlling the Weather

Recommended Posts

Don't you wish that sometimes, you could control the weather? There's one spell that we know of, but not much else really. We can see that the research into this part of magic is actually quite limited.

Suggest to the Ministry of Magic some sort of magical method (either a spell, potion or a magical item) that witches and wizards can use to get some semblance of control over the weather.

Tell us about the weather-controlling magical measure in 100 words or more. Alternatively, you can create a graphic of it and explain it in at least 35 words. If you take the graphics option, please keep your image to 600x600 pixels and upload it to an image hosting website, then share the link.

Sky Clearing Charm

Imgur Link - Larger Version [1920 x 1920 px]

Incantation: Caelum Clarum   (Pronunciation: KAAY-lum-CLAA-RUM)

Wand Movement: Triple, inward, clockwise spiral then a strong upward jab towards the sky.

Purpose: On a rainy or cloudy day, this charm clears a portion of the sky above the caster’s head for a short period of time, and as the person walks ahead, the portion of the sky left behind them goes back to being as it was, and the portion currently above the witch/wizard’s head clears up. This spell requires a huge amount of concentration and willpower to hold, and most witches/wizards won’t be able to hold the spell for any longer than 20 minutes at a time without taking a break.

I suggest the Tornado spell, whose incantation is "Ventus cuniculum." It is a spell that instantly creates a tornado at the tip of the caster's wand. It starts smaller, though if you continue to focus on building up the spell, you can make it more significant with time. It may be useful to create a distraction or force items to be swept up by its wind, It can be cast by moving your wand downward, then gradually moving it up and diagonally in looping movements where the circles overlap.

I would suggest a spell that could turn any weather into sunshine. Say you have an important event coming up like a outdoor birthday party or a wedding and the weather is raining or even snowing. Well with this spell you would be able to change it to warm sunny weather.

Name: Sunny Day

Incantations Sol Torem

My invention is a small metal sphere called a Nubis Imperium (Latin for 'cloud control'). When it is turned on, the sphere unfolds into a rectangular control board, and creates what looks like a small cloud, which floats above the users head when in use, and is stored in the sphere when not. The rectangular control board has a series of symbols, such as clouds and raindrops, and when the witch or wizard touches their wand to one of the symbols, that weather begins to come from the cloud. The board can they be folded again and stored as a sphere until they wish to change the weather or stop using the cloud.
