Point Earning Opportunities (Spring Term 2021/2022)

Recommended Posts

The easiest way to help out your house and show your lion’s pride is to earn points! There are lots of ways you can do this so you’re bound to find some that play to your strengths.

In this post, I’ll give you a brief run-down of the regular point earning opportunities available to you. Whenever a new one opens up throughout the term, we’ll post it as a reply so keep checking back!

The first and most obvious is to take part in classes. All classes will give you the chance to earn 300 points in a term through homework and extra credit. If you take several classes (even if you don’t have the time for the maximum of 5 every term), those homework points soon mount up to quite a tidy haul.

Class sign-up opened on 1st February 2022 and will remain open until May 20th so remember to put your name down for the classes that interest you and get sending in that homework! (It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the individual assignment deadlines so that you don’t run out of time or put too much pressure on yourself)

The next are the creative projects offered each month by the Library and art departments. If you enjoy getting artsy or brushing up on your writing, visit the 'Departments' tab on the main website. Don't be shy: your submissions are anonymous during the rating period. You can get started by going to your profile and telling everyone 'How you Got Into Harry Potter' in the designated section - that will earn you a cool 10 points!

Finally there's the HOL Newspaper. This is a great chance to earn plenty of points by writing about what interests you. If articles and reviews aren’t your thing, it will also offer creative prompts and the chance to submit your own puzzles, graphics and more. Keep an eye on the Newspaper section of the main HOL Forum for updates about the latest issue.

Throughout the term, there will be unique and exciting activities to take part in which will give you the chance to earn points along the way. Remember to check the replies to this thread for announcements and reminders about anything that might be occurring!

There are a few ways to get your point collecting off to a good start this term. First things first, classes. Have you signed up for the ones you like the look of yet? Remember, even if you can only fit 1 into your schedule, every single point is valuable.

We're mid-way through March! Spring is springing around the castle and there are lots of points to be earned. We're somewhat behind in the cup standings but we can easily turn that around if we all pitch in where we can. Remember that every point helps!

First up, the Howler is open for submissions! They'd like your articles, puzzles, ads, stories and more on the theme of 'greenery and growth'. You can earn up to 60 points and see your name in print, what could be better? Head over to the main HOL Forum for more info.

As ever, the Art and Library Departments have projects for you to get stuck into. In the library, they're giving you the chance to pitch your own television episode and to share what you discovered at the end of a rainbow.  In the Art Department, they're inviting you to show off your hobbies and create an advert for a magical suitcase that's fit for a famous magizoologist.

Gryffindor really, really needs your help to climb the cup standings before the end of the school year. Remember that anything you can earn boosts the house and inspires your fellow lions! Here are a few ways you could add a few valuable points to our hourglass…

The departments have a spring in their step this month, so make sure you head over to the Departments page on the main website to find out more. In the Art Department, they’re showing off pranks in honour of the Weasley Twins and also going all floral with beautiful bouquets. In the library, it’s literally raining cats and dogs! There’s also something mysterious hatching out of an egg. What could it be? You decide.

Library Deadline: 6th May

You still have a few more days to submit to the latest issue of the school newspaper, The HOwLer! Whether you like to write, create graphics or dream up some tricky puzzles to bamboozle your classmates, there’s something for everyone. Head over to the main HOL Forum for more info. You can earn up to 60 points!

BREAKING NEWS!

There's a HOL activity over on the main forum but you only have until 11:59 PM HOL-time on Friday to get signed up! Spring into May involves completing fun tasks themed around spring and the month of May. By doing so, you'll earn dice rolls that will let you progress around a Snakes/Shoots and Ladders board

You'll need a partner in crime to team up with but never fear: if you don't know of someone you can join forces with, you can post that you're looking for a team in the thread created for that purpose. Either someone will ask you to join them or the organisers will assign you someone once signups close. You have the chance to earn 80 points for doing the tasks and additional points if your team comes in the top 3 on the games board.

Deadline for signups: 11:59 PM HOL-time on 29th April

Final deadline for tasks: 11:59 PM HOL-time on 29th May (though you'll need to submit them the week they were released if you want to earn dice rolls)

I have a paw full of point earning opportunities for you this time!

With Gryffindor still trailing the other houses in the cup race, it would be wonderful to gather a few more sparkling gems for our hourglass. So, if you see something that tickles your fancy, why not head over there and give it a go?

Let's go, Gryffindor, let's go!

The HOwLer (HOL’s newspaper) is open for submissions again! This issue has the theme of ‘Mists of Time’, so anything historical, mystical or timey-wimy is very welcome. Want to submit something? Brilliant! Head over to the main HOL Forum to find out how. If you’d like to contribute but aren’t sure what, check out the handy Idea Bank for some inspiration. There are 60 points up for grabs!

The Departments also have some fabulous projects to get stuck into. The Art Department are asking you out to brunch and to do a spot of bird watching. The Library have some more mystical plans - step into a garden tended by elves or discover your destiny as a long lost… well, that parts up to you! There are up to 20 points to be earned for each project.

Here we are, nearly at the end of the school year!

Remember that most classes have a final deadline of the 15th of June, though this can vary (so double check!). Aside from sending in those final bits of homework, there are still a couple other fun ways to earn a few last minute points for your profile. Anything extra you manage to earn helps Gryffindor finish in as strong a position as possible too, so it really is a win win!

The HOwLer still needs you! Help make the final issue of the school year sensational. The theme is ‘The Mists of Time’ and you can find out more over on the Main HOL Forum. Remember there are 60 points up for grabs.

Deadline: 17th June

Feel like a spot of space travel? There’s an astronomically exciting activity going on on the main forum right now, based on the beloved book, A Wrinkle In Time. Go join the adventure, try your hand at some puzzles and exercise your creativity.

Deadline: 25th June

There are fresh department projects to delve into as well. Now because of when graduation takes place, these points won’t count for the current school year but they’re an excellent way to get a head start for the next one! The Art Department is inviting you to a very cute graduation party and then giving you total free rein to create whatever you like. The Library Department are having a thrilling time of it, with tales of the  Mermaid Wars and summer crimes.

Art Deadline: 30th June

Library Deadline: 3rd July

Not long now: let’s finish strong and get Gryffindor every last scrap of glory we can (while having lots of fun, of course). Let’s go, lions, let’s go!

I hope you're all having a fabulous summer!

Just because there aren't any classes at the minute doesn't mean you can't get a head start on earning house points though.

The Art Department has two new projects to get stuck into. They're inviting you to go on a shopping spree at your favourite wizarding store and to celebrate one of the many national/international days that take place in August (National Llama day is my favourite, just saying). There's also just time to take part in the Library's current projects: head to the beach and get swept off into an adventure or settle down around the campfire to tell some spooky stories.

Library Deadline: 7 August (with fresh projects to come after that)

Art Deadline: 31 August
