  1. You might recognize our next collection of books, as they are a constant on our textbook lists. It is a collection of books written by Miranda Goshawk for several subjects at Hogwarts, but it is most notably used in Charms and sometimes in the Defense against the Dark Arts.

    Task One - Illustration

    Task Two - Poem

  2. A lot of the textbooks have illustrations beside the incantation and description of the charm and The Standard Book of Spells is no different. They serve as an additional explanation of how the spell works.

Choose one of the charms (that does not have such an illustration) and make one for it. The illustration needs to show the effects of the spell. You can do that through any art medium. Otherwise, you can describe the illustration in at least 80 words.

You will earn 10 rubies by posting your charms illustrations below by 11:59 pm HOL-time on the 31st of December.

  3. When chaos from Peeves’ pranks was finally subdued to a normal level of mischievousness the Gryffindor staff organized a small party, in order to thank everyone for all the help they had given in returning order to the chaos.

Prof. Sky cleared her throat from the top of the stairs, holding a piece of parchment. “We’ve gotten a letter from the Weasleys! Everybody, listen up!” There was a lull in the conversation, broken only with small sips of the butterbeer and hot chocolate.

Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes would like to extend a ginormous, florescent-colored THANK YOU to all you fantastic students and staff who've been helping the school and store in October!

We've seen you unleashing our new Skiving Snackboxes in the Great Hall, causing chaos with the new fireworks in the courtyard, and even convincing Professor Trevelyan to try the Canary Creams! We’ve heard he’s still plucking yellow feathers from his hair (though we won't tell him it was you!). Your dedication to mischief and mayhem is truly inspiring.

But it's not all about the pranks and gags – we also appreciate your input in developing new and improved products.

We've got plans for items that are going to make your detentions more entertaining. We promise that your product ideas are in the works!

Now, we know some of you may have had a few... erm, unexpected side effects while using our products, but just remember – it's all in good fun!

    Yours,

    Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes Team

Purveyors of Pranks, Gags, and General Mayhem

“That’s that then,” Prof. Sky smiled as the parchment closed on itself and exploded into colorful sparks. “Now go and enjoy the party!”

  4. The packages and mishaps from Peeves seem to be winding down. To make sure that all pranks in Gryffindor and around the castle are cleared, cleaned and maybe stealthily tucked away for a better occasion, the staff decided to hold patrols. Solve the logic puzzle below to find out more details.

To prepare for the end of Gryfftoberfest, five staff members (including Prof. Maxim Trevelyan) ran search parties, each for a different type of prank. They occurred each day during the last week (Monday through Friday), at different hours (5 to 9 pm).

Figure out which staff member supervised which search party, as well as what day and time they held them.

    1. The staff member who supervised an edible prank search party was very eager and held it on Monday and at the earliest time. Prof. Sky Alton chose the latest time for her search party.

    2. The five staff members were: Janne Halla, one who supervised a fireworks search party, one who supervised a search party on Monday, one who supervised the search party at 7 pm, and the one who supervised the search party at 9 pm.

    3. The staff member who supervised the fake objects prank search party had it on Thursday, at a later time than the fireworks search party (which was held earlier in the week). The Fireworks search party was held at a later time than the transformation pranks search party.

    4. Lorainia Riverrider supervised their search party at an earlier time than Reyyan Azkendra but at a later time than Janne Halla.

    5. Janne Halla didn't supervise the transformation pranks search party, which happened two days after the Peeves' pranks search party.

Send your logic puzzle solution to me over PM (titled Task 11: Paw Patrol) and CC @Prof. Sky Alton in as well. You'll earn 20 rubies if you send it in by October 31st at 11:59 pm HOL time.

  5. Peeves’ prank broke outside the walls of Hogwarts. The Gryffindor staff got a curious owl post from the proprietors of Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes that told us five types of items were sent all over the globe in an interesting mishap of owl post, floo network and some well-placed Portkeys. They asked us for help finding them!

You need to go out in your part of the world and find five items that might have come from Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes. We did not get the exact name of the item from the store, but they gave a general description.

    • Some candies
    • A game
    • Wacky piece of clothing
    • A colored stone or jewel
    • An animal

Take one photo of each of the items (kudos if you get them all in one photo!) and post them below. They do not have to be items that you own, you can find them anywhere.

    Please remember these rules:

    • You must take the photos yourself, no taking them from the internet.
    • All items and details in the photo must be HOL appropriate.
    • You cannot reveal your identity, your face or the location where you live/took the photo. If there are such details in the photo, you can black them out.
    • Photos must be 600x600 maximum or you can give a link to larger photos.

Each item is worth 3 rubies and with five items, that totals to 15 rubies! You can post your items in separate posts, separate photos or all in one, it is your choice!

You have time to post your found items below by October 31st 11:59 pm HOL time.

If you have any questions whether the photos are appropriate or whether they obey the rules, I am more than happy to answer your questions via private message.

  6. Welcome to our first game of the Gryfftoberfest!

As we all know, Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes are known for their vast selection of pranks, ‘helpful’ items to skip school or to make it easier using pranks, defensive magical objects, and even Muggle tricks!

They are useful for all kinds of situations and we will be making them up in this thread. One person will post a situation or an event and the next poster will be suggesting a product (either a ‘real’ one offered in the shop or one they make up) that will help that person along. They will also include a request of their own.

Prof. Maxim: I would like something that would help me steal a sword from Prof. Alton’s office.

    Person A:

Use a dungbomb to get her out of the office then sneak in and take it.

I would like to have a nap during class hours.

    Person B:

Use a Nosebleed Nougat to get out of class and instead of the Hospital Wing, go to bed!

I would like some help sneaking into the Hogwarts kitchens.

    And so on…

Each post is worth 3 rubies and you can post 5 times for a maximum of 15 rubies! You can of course post more, but it will be just for fun. :)

Please keep all situations in line with HOL guidelines. You have time to post by October 31st 11:59 pm HOL time.

    I will start!

I would like something to help me get out of grading assignments for my classes.

  7. If there is going to be a whole month of pranks, chaos, and some more pranks, you need to be dressed for the occasion. To go alongside the mischief and chaos that permeate the castle, you decide to get into the craziest, wackiest outfit that you can clobber together.

You can show your mischievous fashion by describing your wear in 80 words or more, or by using a dollmaker or some other graphic program. If you decide on the latter, please make sure that the picture is 600x600 pixels maximum. Of course, all other HOL rules need to be obeyed.

Post your dolls or description of your clothes below to earn 20 rubies by October 31st 11:59 pm HOL time.

  8. And the jury has come back with deliberations! Thank you to all the participants in this year's motto contest! :) It was quite a tough decision and we got many, many wonderful mottoes!

    *drumroll*

Third place: Come For a Blast and to Get Out of Class

    Submitted by Anne-Marie Gagne.

Second place: Mischief managed but never forgotten

    Submitted by Scarlet Robloutain.

First place and the motto of this year's Gryfftoberfest...

Where's the fun without a bit of risk?

Congratulations to Prof. Sindor Aloyarc for the winning motto!

  9. The best time of the year is coming!

We call upon all of HOL, students and staff alike, to submit mottos for our annual Gryfftoberfest! This year, our theme is "Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes and mischief", so ready your best thought-out pranks and join us for a month of fun.

Gryfftoberfest is an annual celebration where all of Gryffindor house and our friends come together for a month long party of butterbeer and craziness! Mottos should represent our theme and Gryffindor as a whole!

There are some rules, of course...

    • Keep your mottos to 15 words or less and entirely HOL appropriate.
    • You must be happy for people to reuse your motto on signatures and other creative submissions.
    • You will earn 5 rubies per Motto for the first 5 you submit (so 25 in all). You can submit more for consideration but you will not earn rubies for them.
    • Third place will win an extra 10 rubies, second place an extra 15 and first place an extra 20 rubies for your gem collection.
    • Winners are decided by the Gryffindor staff.

Send your mottos to me (Prof. Maxim Trevelyan) in a Gryff PM and title it "Motto Contest 2023". Remember to include your name and your house in the message. Please try to send all your mottos in one or two messages so my inbox does not stage a revolt.

The deadline is 11:59 PM HOL time on Thursday, September 28th 2023.

  10. September started and I see all of you lovely lions and lionesses are hard at work as our points keep piling up. Here are some more opportunities, besides classes, where you can get some more points this month.

Library department is asking everyone where did that new book come from and what is it about? Flip through it quickly and tell HOL what do you plan to do with it?

    Deadline: 1 October

The Howler is accepting submissions up until 31 October. Get yourself over to the HOL Forum and read all about the various sections and the fun you can have in them. You can earn up to 60 points! This issue’s theme is ‘Setting Sail’ so make sure to brush up on your pirate talk and swimming lessons.

    Deadline: 31 October

  11. The easiest way to help out your house and show your lion’s pride is to earn points! There are lots of ways you can do this so you’re bound to find some that play to your strengths.

In this post, the staff give you a brief run-down of the regular point earning opportunities available to you. Whenever a new one opens up throughout the term, we’ll post it as a reply so keep checking back!

The first and most obvious is to take part in classes. All classes will give you the chance to earn 300 points in a term through homework and extra credit. If you take several classes (even if you don’t have the time for the maximum of 5 every term), those homework points soon mount up to quite a tidy haul.

Class sign-up opened on the 1st of September 2023 and will remain open until the 20th of December, so remember to put your name down for the classes that interest you and get sending in that homework! It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the individual assignment deadlines so that you don’t run out of time or put too much pressure on yourself.

The next are the creative projects offered each month by the Library and Art departments. Department projects alternate each month, one month you will get to be artsy and the next will give you opportunity to brush up on your writing. Visit the 'Departments' tab on the main website. Don't be shy: your submissions are anonymous during the rating period. You can get started by going to your profile and telling everyone 'How you Got Into Harry Potter' in the designated section - that will earn you a cool 10 points!

Finally there's the HOL Newspaper, the HOwLer. This is a great chance to earn plenty of points by writing about what interests you. If articles and reviews aren’t your thing, it will also offer creative prompts and the chance to submit your own puzzles, graphics and more. Keep an eye on the Newspaper section of the main HOL Forum for updates about the latest issue.

    https://hol.org.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=612

Throughout the term, there will be unique and exciting activities to take part in which will give you the chance to earn points along the way. Remember to check the replies to this thread for announcements and reminders about anything that might be occurring!
