  1. Approved Haley Dye - First Year Rejected Tee Williams and Rose Pennsworth - Unfortunately I couldn't find you in the HOL database
  2. To make sure that members of this forum are genuine students of hol.org.uk, new accounts have to be approved by an administrator before being given full access to the Common Room (think of it like having to be given the password to open the portrait hole). This can take a few days. Every time registration approvals are done, I will post here with a list of the accounts that have been approved. I will also mention the names of accounts I have had to reject along with the reason why I had to do so. Common reasons for rejection are: You’re not registered on HOL You didn’t use your HOL name as your username If your account is rejected, please fix the highlighted issue and try again.
  3. In this post, you'll find the current staff of Gryffindor House and what positions they hold. You can also consult our guide down below if you have a matter you need to raise with one of us, but want to make sure you approach the right person! CHAIN OF COMMAND The chain of command is as follows. Student → Junior Prefect → Prefect / professor → Prefect in Charge (if there is one) → Head of House What the Different Ranks Mean Junior prefects (JPs) are students who have volunteered to help out around the Common Room and may later become full prefects. Full prefects help run Gryffindor but also have responsibilities to the whole school. The Prefect in Charge (PiC) oversees all the other prefects and junior prefects - we may not always have a PiC depending on the number and seniority of staff. Professors are teachers who have chosen to be part of Gryffindor. They're not expected to help out around the Common Room but lots choose to do so. The Head of House oversees everything related to Gryffindor, including appointing staff and making sure things run smoothly. OUR STAFF The current head of house (HoH) is @Prof. Sky Alton @Prof. Maxim Trevelyan currently serves as Deputy Head of House (DHoH) Our prefect team currently consists of prefect @Janne Halla and junior prefect @Lorainia Riverrider. Who TO CONTACT Junior Prefects and Prefects are your first port of call. They're here to help organise events and keep the house a safe, fun environment. If you're having an issue with someone or something in the house, please raise it with either a Junior Prefect or a Prefect. Even if they don't think they can deal with it, they will pass it on to the right people higher up in the chain of command. Also, if you have an idea for Gryffindor, please pass that along to a Junior Prefect or a Prefect as they're always looking to work with students to improve the House. If you feel an issue is particularly serious or you aren't comfortable discussing it with a Prefect, please approach the Head of House: she can talk to other authorities in HOL if needed.
  4. Rubies are Gryffindor’s internal points: you’ll earn them for taking part in activities and generally being active around the den. As well as being able to add to your personal hourglass, you’ll have the chance to vie for our very shiny termly awards for highest ruby count. Both Gryffindors and visitors can earn Rubies through activities. Gryffindors will also have the chance to earn them through actions that support the House, such as Quidditch practice, taking part in things in our Gryff-only area and the like. Only Gryffindor staff have the power to award Rubies. The number of Rubies you’ve earned during the current term will be displayed beneath your name on the Common Room and also on your profile. In addition, you’ll also be able to check the Ruby standings on the main page where the top earners are displayed. The Ruby count will reset every term: any Rubies you earn over the summer will be added to your total for the next term. At the end of each term (autumn and spring), the prestigious awards I mentioned earlier will be awarded: the Phoenix Award for the Gryffindor with the highest number of rubies and The Lionheart Award for our top earning visitor. To be in with a chance of scooping one, you’ll need to have your ear to the ground for Gryffindor goings-on and be as active as possible around the Common Room. Good luck!
  5. You have just over 48 hours to make the most of the festival before it closes! Everything's due by 11:59 PM HOL-time on 18 August (this Wednesday).
  6. On your way towards the exit, you encounter a group of people having a passionate discussion. “Films may be a new invention in the wizarding world,” says one man with a superior sniff, “But muggles have known about it for over a century. They’ve gotten rather good at translating stories onto the big screen, you know.” “Oh?” says a woman, a little doubtfully. “Indeed!” the man says, throwing up his hands. “Why I know of some which are so popular that they’ve even been made into films multiple times over…” Perhaps he’s right. But this time, let’s make it a magical remake. We’d like you to adapt a popular muggle film for a wizarding audience. Whether that’s introducing magic to a film without it, tweaking one with magic so it matches up with magic as Hogwarts teaches it or something else entirely, we can’t wait to see it. Please write a new blurb for the film with your wizarding twists incorporated into it and tell us why you made those changes. You could also include notes on magical special effects or even a brief sample of the dialogue if you like. Your write-up should be at least 120 words and the film you pick must be suitable for people of all-ages. Also, if you can, please try to keep spoilers to a minimum - the forum does have in-built spoiler tags if you’d like to use them. Post your responses below by 11:59 PM HOL-time on 18 August to earn 15 rubies!
  7. It’s our last trip to the Gryffindor movie theatre. Settle in, grab your favourite snack and watch the cinematic magic unfurl. For each of these weekly screenings, we’re inviting you to pick a Harry Potter film to watch. You should then go and watch the one you picked and come back to offer your thoughts. And when we say your thoughts, it really can be anything at all. Perhaps you like (or dislike) a particular scene. Maybe there’s a mistake or inaccuracy that bugs you. Maybe you’d like to cast somebody different in one of the roles. Providing it’s HOL appropriate and polite, anything goes. There is no wordcount but please try to put a bit of effort in. This final screening is a wildcard! We’re inviting you to pick any of the films you haven’t already posted about for the activity. If you’ve watched (and posted) about all of them, then feel free to delve into the Fantastic Beasts franchise or a fan made film instead. Also, if you’re unable to access a copy of any of the films, feel free to join in the discussion anyway. The screening part is purely for fun. You’ll earn 5 rubies if you post your thoughts below by 11:59 PM HOL-time on 18 August.
  8. I slap Richard to say welcome to The Den!
  9. As you get ready for the red carpet film premiere, fill in this crossword to brush up on your film knowledge. Link: https://postimg.cc/ctHHk8Rf Send your finished Crossword to the fabulous @Lorainia Riverrider in a forum pm by 11:59 PM HOL-time on August 18 to receive 10 rubies.
  10. You’re just finishing your snack when the same runner from before arrives at your elbow, giving you a wide-eyed look. Grimacing, you realise that you’re yet again not where you’re meant to be. To the dressing rooms! The time has come to strut your stuff on the red carpet! Quickly now, don your jewels, double check your coiffure and prepare to promenade. The outfits are an integral part of any glitzy premier or awards ceremony. With magic on our side, I see no reason why we shouldn’t come up with something utterly spellbinding for this glamourous occasion. For this task, we’d like you to design a red-carpet worthy outfit with a magical twist. Whether that’s swapping a tux for dress robes or enchanting your gown in some way, it’s up to you. You can choose to make a graphic, use a doll maker (please put effort in for full credit if you go this route) or describe your look in 80 words or more. Post your responses below by 11:59 PM HOL-time on 18 August to earn 10 rubies!
  11. It’s that time again! Buckle up because things are about to get intense… For each of these weekly screenings, we’re inviting you to pick between two Harry Potter films. Our options this week are Deathly Hallows Part 1 or Part 2. You can choose to watch them both if you’d like/have the time. Also, if you’re unable to access a copy of either film, feel free to join in the discussion anyway. The screening part is purely for fun. You’ll earn 5 rubies if you post your thoughts below by 11:59 PM HOL-time on 18 August.
  12. Our summer roleplay has got me thinking about Diagon Alley and all the incredible shops there. We only got to see a fraction of them through Harry's eyes but what we did see was fascinating. I think I'd spend forever in the magical equipment shops looking at the instruments and curiosities on sale. An ice-cream at Fortescues and a trip to the Magical Menagerie to cuddle the puffskeins would also be on the cards. Which shop or café would you most like to visit and what would you buy?
  13. You peer round a corner, trying to track down the source of some rather odd singing. To your amazement, you see a gigantic carton of popcorn, an even larger cup and an sizable hotdog. They all appear to be singing and dancing a rather ungainly version of the cancan. “Let’s all go to the lobby, let’s all go to the lobby, let’s all go to the lobby, to get ourselves a treat!” You back away very slowly. Once you’re out of range though, you realise you do feel a little peckish. And why not? Snacks are a crucial part of many people’s movie going experience. Whether it’s a huge bucket of buttery popcorn or a bag of your favourite sweets, we’d love to hear about your ideal movie-watching accompaniment. You can do this one of several ways: tell us about your favourite nibbles in 80 words or more, create a digital graphic or make your ideal snack and photograph it for us. The photograph must be your own work and not borrowed from elsewhere on the internet. Also, if you don’t like to snack while you watch films, feel free to tell us why not. There are no wrong answers here! Post your response below by 11:59 PM HOL-time on 18 august to earn 10 rubies!
  14. Ready to embark on another magical adventure? Well then, step right this way and I’ll show you to your seat. For each of these weekly screenings, we’re inviting you to pick between two Harry Potter films. Our options this week are Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince.
  15. You’re just thinking about checking out the complimentary butterbeer fountain when someone dashes up to you and asks whether you’ve got your quill to hand. As it turns out, your VIP status means you’ve been granted an interview with one of the shining stars of the magical silver screen. The runner escorts you backstage and leaves you there, brightly telling you they hope you’ve got some good questions to ask… Well, do you? For this task, we’d like you to write up your interview with a wizarding movie star. They could be a character of your own creation or a Harry Potter character who’s decided to switch careers. You Need to write both your questions as the interviewer and their answers. You could ask them about anything: their upcoming projects, their dream role, their likes or dislikes, the latest scandal to hit the Daily Prophet… Remember though, they may not want to give you an honest answer. Your write-up should be at least 120 words. Post it below by 11:59 PM HOL-time on 18 August to earn 15 rubies!
