  1. There are desks made which have secret 'pockets' in them for the storage of precious (or otherwise valued) items. This practice has been around for hundreds of years (and maybe thousands of years) and one of the things that some innovative creators have done is set their children loose on the item of furniture to see if they could find everything. Just like now, it seems that if an item couldn't be found by a kid, it was pretty safe! graphic shows a hidden drawer (made visible) which was built into a wooden desk
  2. Definitely there is something about the physical act of playing a game that keeps it, and will keep it, a party of society. Not everyone likes or loves augmented virtual reality. It's a nice diversion, and sometimes it can be totally fascinating and "‘tis a consummation Devoutly to be wished" but ... hey, while we have physical bodies, there is a lot more to them than sitting (or however one is posed) and being hooked up to a machine. Sometimes it is just plain lovely to go kick a ball, ride a horse, fence with someone -- play with your dog -- eat messy pizza.
  3. True. Has a dog who sleeps on your bed ...
  4. True. But not usually if it fell face down .... Says they are going to bed (allegedly to sleep) and end up reading for a couple hours (or more).
  5. True. Eh? Has played in the snow.
  6. I hug slap Sky for having a great avatar.
  7. The Card Stacking Game just hasn't been able to become acknowledged as a viable game. It was originally created by someone when they ran out of ideas for what to do with all their packs of playing cards; they had tried all the variations of solitaire, and yezeeur, and pinochleaar and poker and all of that. Same old, same old! So they started building houses, making towers, building bridges, everything they could think of using the playing cards. But it was difficult to keep the cards in place without using glue (or a sticking charm) and the whole idea was to balance the cards without any extra means. The game eventually lost any momentum it had when a witch decided that it would be fun to curse all playing cards which were in existence so that anyone touching them would acquire the 'imprint' of whatever was on the face of the card on their forehead. While the curse was being broken, those who played the Card Stacking Game found themselves being stacked in various positions by others who had never played it in its original form but were highly entertained at this variation of the game.
  8. I don't play many board games and those that I do play (as far as I know) haven't had many changes in their rules of play for a long time. The latest 'board game' I play is chess and it's pretty much as it's been for quite a while. The latest 'strong' change to rules was made in around 1475. Changing rules in and for more modern games? Maybe it is, if folks don't like how it goes, they will not play. There are a multitude of games available so that the producers of them need to be alert and aware that if what they are doing is not profitable, then they will change track to something that works (or go under).
  9. I'd call the person trying to get them to see sense and ask if she wants to go have pizza while they sort out their differences (or not). (If they don't want to see sense, they wont! Also, once the mediator is gone, they might just stop ... because leaving the situation, in and of itself, is a statement.) But pizza is very good. You are heading out to the library to return some overdue books. They are from the Restricted Section so you only had permission to have them for 1 day. But when you heft up your book bag, it feels way too light. They are in there but shrunk! Who you gonna call?
  10. I'm going to call Will! He has a huge supply of charms and hexes, and if nothing else, will be able to block the flow of water for a while, if not actually fix the plumbing! Your puppy just sort of accidentally ate some Filibuster Whizz Bombs. WHO YOU GONNA CALL?
  11. I could ... 1) use mobiliarbus in musical chairs (not the muggle musical statues that Dudley Dursley played). That could make it interesting when someone is trying to get to a chair. 2) play music in the ears of someone when playing 'name that tune'. Maybe play something like one of the tunes which, once in your head, you can't get rid of 3) turn off all the lights in the room when someone is playing blind man's bluff so that everyone can't see anything 4) some sort of sticking charm, when a person is playing checkers, so that they try to move a piece and they cannot and it falls on the wrong place 5) use the rictusempra charm to distract someone from playing their game as well as they could
  12. I like playing games both ways. I like the 'individual' striving for excellence, where it is me doing my best to compete, whether this be as a member of a larger field of individuals all doing the same thing, or me by myself. This is mostly in endeavours of athletic types of events, whether it is archery or equestrian or on foot (trekking / endurance). I like being a member of a team with clearly defined duties and responsibilities, and with others with other clearly defined duties and responsibilities (who are doing, in some way, their share of the load). I can see (and have experienced) advantages to both ways of playing -- and also see (and have experienced) disadvantages to both ways of playing. I've been on some excellent teams, where each person is valued and has their own awesome attributes, and -- no matter if it relates directly to the game played or not -- they are a valued member of the team. I've also seen some individuals who have done some incredible (if not impossible) feats who, if they had been restricted to 'team' requirements, would not have raised the bar of what is possible.
  13. sweltering - I love the desert ... so much Would you rather have flaming torches or old-fashioned gas lamps as a source of light?
  14. Golden voice. My cousin sings like the most 'boss' angel you'd ever hear. ... I don't. :D Would you rather stay up late or sleep in late?
