  1. For those Gryffindors who love to write and want to earn points by writing for The Gryffindor Paw Print, consider applying for a staff writer position for the school year 2011-2012! The Paw Print seeks talented writers for staff writer positions: Really though. YOU CAN EARN POINTS!. :D Paw Print Staff Requirements: - Produce at least two 500 word-minimum stories, articles or columns per month. Basically one page single spaced in a word processing program. - - Be able to use creativity to pitch new article and column ideas. - Be able to contribute and dedicate the needed time to the Paw Print and check in with editors. - Be able to stick with a deadline and get your work done in a timely manner. Having the time and dedication is so important as this paper is a big part of the Gryffindor House and very important to those involved. To gain an idea of how the Paw Print functions, you can check out our actual paper: http://gryff.net/pawprint/ There are currently three areas in which we are seeking new staff members. Those areas are: Columnist, Writer, Layout Design and/or Web Editor 1. Columnists A.) Talons and Tea Leaves: Comedic Horoscope Overview: This column is Gryffindor's comedic take on horoscopes. You will not need to find or accurately predict someone's horoscope. You will only need to be clever and creative enough to come up with your personal and original horoscopes. For an idea on how this column works, you can check out this link: http://gryff.net/pawprint/issue42/ Please note that you don't have to do this column precisely as it has been done in the past. If you have an idea that you think would make it better, please feel free to incorporate it. Requirements: Write a new column each month for each astrological sign. Application Process: To apply for this position, you will need to write up your version of the Tea Leaves column. Please write it for the month you are applying in. ^_^ While the minimum word count for articles is 500, this area might be slightly different, so there is no minimum. Make sure you cover each sign, though. :) B.)Personal Column Overview: The Paw Print is also looking for those who wish to start their own personal column in a newspaper. It could be a culinary column, a column on magical beasts, a column on the happenings of the Headmaster's Pants. Your call. We'd love to see your creative side! Requirements: Be able to write for your column once a month on time. The column must be 500 words minimum. Application Process: To apply for a columnist position, send in the first submission of the column you would like to write. If the idea and the column is approved, your submission will be in the next month's edition of the Paw Print. __________ 2. Writers. Overview: Writers have the chance to write up 1 or more articles per issue. The articles can be on pretty much anything within the HOL Guidelines. HOL Events, new contests, contest results, reviews, etc. Our main sections we need writing for are the Gossip section and the Sports section. But we're flexible, too. We're really trying to go for a fun magazine atmosphere, so we highly encourage thinking a bit outside of the box. For example, tell us about the amazing Quidditch practice you witnessed, or interview a student who was pranked by first year students, or how Humphrey B. is STILL trying to woo over Ilona (after all these years, the scandal!). If you are looking for ideas, or want to run something by me first, feel free to PM me. If you'd like I can provide you with a list of unclaimed article ideas the staff currently posted for the current issue. :) Requirements: Be able to write at least 1 500-word-minimum article per issue. Check in regularly to the Paw Print forum in the Gryffindor Paw Print. Submit your work by the deadline. Application Process: To apply to be a Paw Print article, write and submit 1 or 2 article(s); 500 word minimum (or about 1 page single spaced in Word). If you are accepted as a Paw Print writer, the articles will be published in the next issue of the Paw Print. _________ 3. Layout Designers Overview: You will need to produce and create 1-2 original layouts per month. You will not have to think up layout ideas on your own, if you don't want to. However, if you are able to, be my guest! [Clarification: We are looking for layout DESIGNS. That means the images and colors you see every month. The layout for the page is fixed so you do not need to worry about that. :)] Requirements: You must possess adequate knowledge on creating layouts and some HTML. Not all of these are going to be required, per say, but they could be needed. Application Process: Design a new layout for the Paw Print's September issue. If it is not clear how the images work in the old layout, ask me. I can clarify it a bit for you. __________ Turning in your Application: NOTE: ALL APPLICATIONS ARE TO BE SENT TO PROF. ZENIX JAMES. There is no official due date, but we highly encourage you get it in as soon as possible so you can start earning those fabulous points and be the ultimate HOL student. :D All applications and work are to be PM'd to me through the Gryffindor Common Room. Your application submission(s): ______ As a quick disclaimer, we all understand that life can throw unexpected events at us. If for some reason you're skeptical about the amount of time you can dedicate to the Paw Print, we can always talk it over and negotiate through particular instances. Please don't let that discourage you from applying, we're a very understanding group of people to work with. If there are any questions, please feel free to ask away. I am so excited to see what kind of writing talent the students of Gryffindor have this year, and am looking forward to working with you all! 2. Oh, we so excited. Hooray, pop culture reference! Welcome to Gryffindor! Or, if you're an older person reading this, welcome to paying attention in Gryffindor! Both are wonderful concepts. This is just a super quick post highlighting some of the major things that are going to be happening right now and in the next coming weeks. 1. New Student Sign-ups: Obviously, this is self-explanatory, but if you live under a rock, new students are signing up right now. Lots of new students and, more importantly, new Gryffindors will be wandering through our wonderful and insane house. 2. Class Sign-ups: For those of you who do not know yet, class sign ups will be starting around February 15th. (I'll update this when I know for sure. :)) A good tip for new students is to take classes taught by Gryffindor professors, as it helps our house as a whole; however, you are more than welcome to take whatever kinds of classes you want. 3. Gryffindor Quidditch Team Tryouts: YES, QUIDDITCH. Quidditch is one of the most awesome and fun things you can do on HOL, and it's SO EASY! Click here for more information on joining the Gryffindor Quidditch Team. CLICK ME! 4. The Paw Print: This is Gryffindor's own house newspaper where students can write their own columns, random articles, and many other fun articles. There are a lot of opportunities to earn Gryffindor points by writing for the Paw Print. 5. Confused yet? Don't worry, I was confused for a very long time until I finally figured this place out. Here is a little page with some great links to other handy places around the Gryffindor Common Room that can help you find your way a little easier! CLICK ME! We're all so happy to welcome you into the Gryffindor House and we truly hope you find a little piece of home with us! ~ Zenix
  3. System... Man, I'm boring. That's what I get for having a career in law.
  4. I slap Irma for being so awesome and reading Vampire Academy because that is AWESOME. If I haven't said that enough in all of these threads. <_<
  5. NOT guilty. I am not guilty of "trying" to write a book. I am writing a book! Ohhh, loophole!
  6. Penelope Clearwater. Yes, I am going to make all of mine HP related.
  7. 230! Two hundred and thirty Twee honderd dertig Deux cents et trente Διακόσια Ï„Ïιάντα Duecento e trenta 200ãŠã‚ˆã³30 Dois cem e trinta Dosciento y treinta I felt lame just posting "230," so there it is in 7 different languages.
  8. Fortunately, her health was stopped at the airport customs and was sent back to her.
  9. I love to smile, but more than smile, I love to smirk. Loves to SING!
  10. You know it, you know it. <3 And that cup is coming home!
  11. *hem hem* And, no, that was not my Dolores Umbridge impression, because that would be wrong. For those who didn't turn out for GQT's AMAZING last match of the season, you missed an awesome show of pure dominating skill. GQT was denied a victory by a mere 10 points (170-160 to RQT Book1 Quidditch score flashback and Bulgaria v. Ireland coincidence!, but that is a beautiful thing in our books, especially against the machine-roids of RQT. An amazing game by our Charming Chasers: Pavel LaGrange, Eno Thomas, and Sydney Alexandra. Our BadAaa...BadlyAbolishing Beaters: James Greene (HIM!) and Zenix James (ME!). Our Killer Keeper : Kadina Tigano. And our Super Seeker: Jenny Lupin, who, not so incidentally, CAUGHT that infamous Golden Snitch, gaining GQT a beautiful 50 points. A big congrats to Sydney and James in their first Quidditch game of the season. James gave those bludgers a deafening crack of defeat and Ms. Sydney scored in her first ever game! Truly spectacular! The game MVP (Most Valuable Player) went to our very own Eno Thomas! A big congrats to him on that honor. And GQT's very own Team MVP went to Sydney! ...And me, but give her the congrats, it was her FIRST GAME! Amazing! Overall, a great end to the season. I'm so proud of the whole team, and thank you to everyone who showed out to support us. It's truly appreciated! Good luck on exams and BATTLESHIP IS COMING. HUZZAH!
  12. Awww, I'm so super glad that we have such musically gifted Gryffindors! Gryffindor band? I think so. We'd rock HOL's socks off. Madeline, you are going to do AMAZING on your 7th grade exam! I feel it. The fates whatever those are are whispering, "Madeline is going to ACE this exam cause she is awesome." We got your back. I "play" a couple of instruments. Technically, I've never had lessons in any of these, but I throw things together and people tell me it sounds okay, so I guess it's something like playing. ;) I play an upright, thousand-pound piano that I inherited from my grandmother. She tried to teach me when I was younger, but I was a stubborn little child and refused because it was "too hard." I straight up regret that since she has passed on. So, I play and create music in her honor now. Apparently, I can play by ear, which has been increasingly handy as I practice and play more often. I ATTEMPT to play guitar. I have a Gibson SG electric, a Yamaha 12 string, and a Honer 6 string acoustic. All currently reside with my father. We switch off every 4 years. I just don't have the patience for it like I do for the piano. With a guitar, you have to work with it and the frets and strings to make it sound good. To you all who play the guitar or are learning, keep at it. You are far better and more patient people than I. ^_^ I'm incapable of writing music and combining it with lyrics. I can write music and lyrics separately...but not together. Go me. I sing...a lot. I personally don't think I have any talent at it, but people tell me I do. So, hey. What's a person to do? Really, keep at your music playing and instrument learning and singing! Music is amazing and I'm sure you are all immensely talented!
  13. I'M FREE. ...I mean, alas...My heart is hindered so by this announcement I regret to bring to you. By some mere miracle, someone has agreed to relieve me of my Editor-in-chief position on the Paw Print. Are you wondering what delusional, crazy person would agree to something like this? Who would want to torture themselves monthly and have smoke billow out of their ears on a daily basis? I am quite pleased to announce Ms. Ardeliah Longbottom as the Gryfifndor Paw Print's new Head Editor. Everything makes sense now, right? Yes, I have run my course and it is time to hoist the reigns on to another unsuspecting soul worthy soul. Thank you to everyone who made my time with the Paw Print very rewarding. I am very pleased to have been honored with such a wonderful staff and student population. I hope you all will do the same for our new editor. Ms. Longbottom, I wish you the best of luck with your new endeavor. You shall do great things! So, yes, all questions, comments, harrassment, articles, applications and other assorted goods are now to be thrown at Ardeliah! Good luck! - Zenix
