Limericks!

Introduction:

Limericks are often thought to be of Irish origin because of the city and county of the same name located in southwestern Ireland. While limerick poetry may have in fact been named after the location, there isn't any other clear connection between the two.

The limerick packs laughs anatomical

In space that is quite economical,

But the good ones I've seen

So seldom are clean,

And the clean ones seldom are comical.

In short, a limerick poem is a light humorous, nonsensical, or bawdy verse of five anapestic lines usually with the rhyme scheme aabba. The above is an example.

Here are a few basic rules you'll need to follow for each Limerick verse:

  1. Limericks are 5 lines long.
  2. Lines 1, 2 and 5 each have seven to ten syllables.
  3. Lines 3 and 4 each have five to seven syllables.
  4. The lines have an ‘a a b b a’ rhyming pattern.
  5. Lines 1, 2 and 5 rhyme with one another.
  6. Lines 3 and 4 rhyme with one another.

While limericks are typically only one verse in length, you'll need more than that to complete this particular challenge.

Challenge:

Your challenge is to write limerick verses that summarize the entire Harry Potter series. Certainly not an easy task, but hopefully you can have fun with it.

You could go with focusing a verse or 2 on each book, or maybe pick your favorite scenes and give each a verse. It's entirely up to your den.

Your entire poem must be a minimum of 7 verses. There is no maximum.

As if this challenge isn't difficult enough, there's another catch. Den members must take turns writing each line of the poem (each line, not each verse!) AND at least 2 different den members must post before you can post again. So for example:

Line 1 - You

Line 2 - random den member

Line 3 - other random member

...and then you are allowed to post again.

You might want to discuss as a den what your focus should be before you actually start on the poem. Your den's poem as a whole should come to a clear conclusion, otherwise we'll be judging the unfinished product.

Rules:

-Be sure to follow all guidelines mentioned above.

-This should be a den effort. Meaning more than 1 person doing all the work.

-Only members of your own den may help with completing the challenge. No outside help.

-Your den's challenge entry should be sent only by the den prefect or JP. Please be sure to include a list of den members that participated in the challenge. The email should be sent to spd@gryff.net with the subject "March Den Challenge - Den Name".

Rubies:

Winners will be decided by SPD vote. Amuse us!

1st place - 25 rubies for den members that participate.

2nd place - 15 rubies for den members that participate.

3rd place - 10 rubies for den members that participate.

The deadline for this challenge is March 31st at 11:59 pm HOL time. Any questions you have about this challenge may be PMed to me.

For this challenge... no den won. Sorry guys, there wasn't a single completed challenge. Sooo, no rubies for anyone.

Since you essentially only needed 3 people to do this, it's really kind of disappointing. Hopefully this month turns out better.

The den challenge before this one will be updated shortly, since there was actually some participation. :)
