Royal Dilemmas

Recommended Posts

The King and Queen have been facing some rather unfortunate situations recently. They've called their subjects from all over the kingdom to their palace to help solve these puzzling dilemmas. While you're enjoying all the delicious foods the palace has to offer, meeting many interesting people, and browsing all the many stalls available, remember your task on hand - keeping the royal family's problems at bay with your own creative solutions. Try and put some effort into it!

The Royal Messenger comes running into the courtyard with the first issue you have to solve:

Someone has been stealing the silverware for a feast the queen is expected to attend tonight. How are you going to get it back? (magic allowed!)

Post your solution below along with the next problem you hear of. Each post you make will earn you 4 gold pieces. Good luck!

This was already an obvious 'might happen' and so, while getting ready for the festivities, each piece of silverware was made into a portkey, which, if summoned with the proper charm, would bring them all back to their respective drawers and bins. (It was only difficult to come up with a word for the charm which was not a usual word to say; it might be awkward to be talking with someone and say that word and suddenly all the silverware disappears from the tables (and hands, and mouths and everything) to reappear in their drawers and bins.)

However, in the meantime, someone let loose the squirrels. Who have gone for all the nibbles on the tables. What to DO?

Squirrels happen to be very easily distracted. So using an enchanted pipe to call them away, we can essentially "Pied Piper' back into the forest. And maybe make sure to throw some acorns or other food in their direction as well. It is autumn after all, so they're trying to store up for winter!

However, I noticed there's an awful lot of the flags being turned green and silver. Are the Slytherins trying to prank us?

Slytherins have a point. There should be their flags and banner all around the fair. However, with a flick of the wand, all other banner sprout around the place as well, from the house ones, to all the other participants that might try their luck, affiliated or not. This way, everyone is represented and there are a lot of beautiful colors, banners and heraldry all around.

Oh dear. The cooks come running out of the kitchen screaming about missing ingredients. However will they make the delicious desserts?

Easy. They just hire Maxim to do their baking for them :P

Oh no! The crown prince has suddenly started speaking in what appears to be a very ancient language, and no one around him can gauge what he's trying to say. How can the situation be solved?

This had caused a bit commotion, with people trying to guess what kind of language the prince was speaking. We can simply bring out the royal translator who’s famous for knowing so many languages to sort this out. Then later maybe we can hear a serious or a rather hilarious story of how he managed to speak like this.

Oh my, maybe fifty Cornish pixies has managed to get themselves out of their cage! They are causing such a huge mess in the fair ! stealing gold coins from some angry wizards, throwing out the sales items away from the shops, throwing arrows dangerously everywhere they’ve got from the archery grounds and even had got hold of some of the queen’s presents ! They are making so much trouble around the fair that the wizards and witches are running around to get shelter. How are we supposed to solve this problem?

Let's just do a specified and complete 'stunning' charm, spread over the whole area, to target all of them so they fall, quite stupefied to the ground, and we can bundle them out and transport them far far away.

Someone got into the punch and added a 'secret ingredient' and now everyone who partakes of that yummy beverage has skin of a lovely shade of purple. What to do? :o

The Royals decreed that we should have a "who wears it better" competition with purple being the center of attention. All partake in it and have fun until it disperses on its own.

A mischievous being opened the pig pen and now they are running all around the castle, tracking mud everywhere. What on earth shall be done to catch them?

The king and queen allow the princess to name the Pygmy Puff as she wishes but they instruct her to give it a more simple nickname.

The jousting is supposed to happen soon, but all participants noticed that their weapons have lost their hardness and flop around as if they were made from foam. How will they be able to continue with the jousting revelry?

Oh dear, some of the house elves have gotten into the butterbeer and are making a ruckus while the King is trying to make a speech. How can we calm them down?

They call upon a gifted potioneer to quickly whip up a potion that would take care of this problem. Let us just hope that there are no side effects!

Oh dear, there is commotion in the castle's dungeons. Doors are opening by themselves, there are whispers in the dark corners and people tell that they see the mice dancing when they eat some food. What is going on?

It turns out that someone had accidentally (or perhaps on purpose?) cast Tarantallegra on the Griffin being kept in one of the cells. The Griffin's dancing caused the ground to shake, which in turn caused all of the cell doors to swing loose. The mice weren't dancing - their meal was rudely interrupted by the ground shaking! Someone rushed to cast a Finite Incantatem on the Griffin and the commotion ceased.

As our heroine exits the dungeons, she almost falls into a massive sink hole that has formed suddenly in the middle of the festival grounds. How might this be explained, and how can it be fixed before someone gets hurt?

It becomes a lovely swimming pool! Water fills it and the water is heated so that folks can enjoy it without freezing to death. The air around the pool is enchanted so that anyone diving in, when they get out, immediately their clothes dry out (albeit they are maybe wrinkled a bit!)

The giant squid finds out about the swimming pool and is on its way over to join in the festivities. What to do?

Oh, no! The juggler, who has already been paid to entertain the guests, is refusing to continue unless he gets to ride the king's best stallion.

Knowing that the king's stallion is currently otherwise occupied, one of the king's servants transfigures another horse to look exactly like the king's stallion. The juggler happily agrees to perform a special show while riding the horse!

...except he goes to find his juggling balls, he realizes that someone has stolen them! The show must go on - what happens next?

No problem, he realizes after a moment. He goes to the bag with the sticks it in, and lights the ends of them and twirls the flaming brands in the air while standing on the rosin backed horse.

That high in the air, the juggler sees that something is amiss in the tents. It appears that a lion is prowling around the largest tent. He calls it out, to a nearby garda.  What happens?

The garda, in turn, notifies the resident magician, who transfigures the lion into a small cat. He then summons a special collar to identify the cat/lion, so that once the days proceedings are over, the cat/lion can be relocated to a more suitable habitat and the transfiguration process would then be reversed.

With the festival coming to an end, and the various mishaps along the way, a number of performers are getting restless about not having had the opportunity to fulfil their contracts and are concerned about not getting their pay. How does this get addressed?
