  1. I'd probably go down the Death Eater route just to see what the hype is about.

Would you rather be able to play an instrument really well but not be able to sing or be able to sing but never play an instrument and read music?

  2. Avatar:

The avatar features a rough-edged, diamond-shaped icon of a stylised lion head with a scarlet mane placed on a golden background. In the bottom left corner, the word "Gryfftober" is written in white down and across, making it L shaped. Inline with that on the right-hand side is the year "2018". There is also a very thin, light border around the edges.

The signature shows the same background as the avatar with the lion icon placed on the left-hand side. White caption that says "Roar with Pride" is placed on the right. The "Roar" is in a cursive font, appearing to be standing on top of the uppercase printed word "Pride".

  4. It’s time we made our way out of the forest and back to the party. As the night progresses, more and more things come out to roam the trees and it’s far safer for us back in the glow of our campfire. We hope you’ve enjoyed your trek through this most mysterious part of the grounds and had just a taste of what makes us Gryffindor’s so adventure loving. And for those of you mumbling about the centaurs... I thought we agreed never to speak of that again?

What’s that? No, no, no, that isn’t a web. That’s just... more unicorn hair. Yes, sometimes it gets sticky. All the same, best to back away quickly. We really should be getting back... No, I’m sure the thing moving heavily through the trees towards us is just the local three headed dog. Nothing to worry about... Just follow Sky down the path, I’ll be with you in a moment. Ignore the multiple glowing eyes... just go!

Your task is to solve this jigsaw puzzle. Please send us the screenshot of the solved puzzle, as well as the name of the beast you've just encountered. The deadline for this task is the 31st of October. Please submit via a reply to the group PM you’ve already set up for past tasks.

  5. Gather round, gather round, please.

As you can see, we're at the edge of a lake. I do realise it doesn't seem as fascinating as perhaps riding unicorns, but I promise that a special treat awaits on the other side.

Crossing this lake is not an easy task as we mustn't startle the beings that dwell in it - so a boat is not an option. As many of you still haven't got you apparition licence - and we're still technically bound by Hogwarts protective enchantments - apparition is not an option either. But there is a way to get to the other side and it involves some thinking. See those islands all over the pond? Well, we'll simply have to construct bridges between them to safely come across. Since there is a certain number of us, the bridges have to be constructed in a very specific way to be able to withstand. Here's a map of the lake and instructions on how the bridges have to be laid out. Let's see if you can figure it out!

    1. The number on the island indicates how many bridges it needs have to be able to support our group.
    2. Bridges can only connect north and south or east and west (read: they can go up, down, left and right).
    3. There can only be up to two bridges starting on the same side of the island.
    4. Bridges cannot overlap or cross each other.

Your task is to draw lines on the map representing the bridges. The deadline for this task is the 26th of October. Please submit via a reply to the group PM you’ve already set up for past tasks.

  6. Now that a motto has been chosen, it's time for the signature and avatar contest! For this contest, please try to use this year's winning motto by Maxim Trevelyan. The motto is, 'Paws of Glory'.

You can make just a signature, or just an avatar, or even both! It truly depends on how many beans you want!

    Rules

    • This is an individual activity, no partner needed.
    • All designs should be your own. Do not take them from elsewhere.
    • Do not customise graphics with your own name, doll, or picture.
These graphics should be available for all to use.
    • You can send in just a signature, just an avatar, or both (though they will be judged separately).
    • Signatures should be at most 250 pixels in width and 100 pixels in height.
    • Avatars should be at most 100 pixels by 100 pixels.
    • You may submit as many graphics as you want, but only the first 3 of each type will count for participation.
All beyond 3 will still be included in voting.
    • Graphics need to be of appropriate rating. Nothing obscene or offensive.

    Beans

Signatures and avatars will be voted on separately by the Gryffindor staff to determine the top 3 for each category.

    • 10 beans for each entry (3 maximum)
    • 10 additional beans for 3rd place
    • 15 additional beans for 2nd place
    • 20 additional beans for 1st place

There are 2 separate contests - signatures and avatars. So the beans count for each contest. That means submitting 3 signatures and 3 avatars will earn you 60 beans minimum, 30 for each category.

Send all Graphics to me (Prof. Dario Brighton) via a Common Room PM titled 'Sig/Av 2017' and include your HOL name, house and ID. Please try to gather them all together into one message - but if you end up deciding to submit more after you've already done so, please do not create a new message thread, but instead reply to the previous one

The deadline to submit your graphics is Saturday, the 7th of October by 11:59pm HOL time. They will then be voted on, and we'll hopefully have a winner posted the next day.
