Campfire Songs (Mini Game)

12 posts in this topic

There’s nothing quite like a campfire to excite the musician and storyteller in all of us. Come gather around the crackling flames, warm up your beautiful voices and bring a verse to share.

Following the example set by his old hat, we’re writing a collaborative Ballard about the mythic escapades of our honoured founder, Godric Gryffindor (Don’t worry, there is no actual singing involved….). Each section you contribute should be 6 lines and rhyme in some way; it should also follow directly on from whatever the person before you was writing about. It can be as silly, dramatic or downright cringe worthy as you please.

Rules

-This is a mini game which means it’s  an individual activity so no partnering required.

-Deadline is 31st October at 11.59 Hol-time

-Don’t post ‘back to back’, wait for at least one person to reply before posting again

-You’ll receive 10 beans for your first two contributions (though you can make more!)

-When I say it can be terrible, I really mean it. No shame here.

I’ll start us off!

Godric was a mighty man,

With brain and brawn and sword,

And one day he hatched a plan,

To go wandering abroad.

So shouldering a pack, off he ran

Across a grassy sward

(go ahead and groan, it's okay .. :D .)

Alas, alack, he ran so far
He found himself quite lost
He camped and built a fire
And slept and turned and tossed
And in the morning found himself
Shivering in the frost

Godric was a mighty man,

Brave and also loyal.

But now because of the cold,

All he could think of was to ran.

To a warmer place, to warm his face,

That sounded like a plan!

//Best rhyme ever.

But where he ran, to his surprise
He ended in a place
With fireflies and a huge beast
A dragon with large eyes
Who glared at him and twitched its face
And said 'Oh, here's a feast!'

Against this mighty beast,

Godric so despaired,

that he was bad at direction

and not come more prepared.

So, what did our hero do?

He spoke to dragon with affection.

The dragon stared in disbelief

Then sat upon a rock.

Godric spoke on, a true in-chief

Their eyes now in a lock.

And he began to feel relief

As death he seemed to block.

But then the dragon laughed and said

"You are quite good my lad,

And even though your words are sound

I think I'll be quite sad ...."

And Godric vanished, left the scene,

Apparated out like mad!

When brave Godric appeared again,

it was in the middle of a clearing.

It was dark, so the hero took a careful step.

Alas, his foot got stuck in a chain.

Godric could only whimper out a tiny 'yep',

before in the air he went veering.

First Godric fumbled for his wand.

"Lumos," he said and looked around.

He saw trees and a little pond

But could not hear the softest sound.

And since he could not see beyond

He climbed til he reached higher ground.

Godric climbed and climbed so far up he went
and when he finally reached the top
his legs and breath were spent.

His wand still lit, he walked to the edge
of the seemingly cliff he'd found.
And then he mistakenly looked down.

And saw the dragon rising up,

floating in the air

Its wings flapping e'er so strong

And he was almost there!

And Godric with a moan he leapt

and apparated fast

but this time took some care to think

of a place back in his past

Where the dragon would not find

(he hoped) a man who's on the run

because being a dragon's dinner

wouldn't be much fun.

The destination he thought of swell

the leap was determined and deliberated well.

When he appeared at Godric's Hollow

He gave a cheer and a yelp

For when he looked behind him

he realized the dragon had bit his coat tail.
