Some of you may have noticed the shiny new tab up there in the top left. Or perhaps you were distracted by the awesome banner. At any rate, Gryffindor has a BRAND NEW BLOG. We're hoping this will not only keep you all updated on the latest happenings in HOL and Gryff, but will give you something else to comment on and such. JOIN THE GRYFF STAFF! With a new school term starting, the Gryffindor staff is working hard to keep the house shiny and organized while planning fun and exciting activities for all the students. However, with an increase in activities comes a higher workload, so we are looking to add several Junior Prefects to the staff. These Junior Prefects should be hard working, motivated, and dedicated to making Gryffindor even better. To qualify to send in an application you must satisfy the following conditions: * Must have been at HOL at least 1 full term. (Yes, first years who started this fall can apply). * Students repeating a year are also allowed to apply this term. * Be aware that as a JP, you have no prefect rights in HOL at all. You do not receive those until you become a full prefect. * Must be willing to achieve the following this year (this is part of our current prefect contract): If you think you can handle this and meet the above qualifications (and yes, we will check) then please answer the following questions to the best of your abilities. When you are done, send the application in a PM to Prof. Jenny Lupin by February 16th, 2011. (But don't wait until the last minute!) They will then be forwarded to Prof. Missa Matz for review. If you have questions, definitely ask. I know this was a bit long and possibly a bit confusing. :) QUESTION SECTION (Sorry this is a bit long. We take our staff positions seriously, and thus we want to make sure the students we select are fully qualified.) 1. Name: 2. Year: 3. Why do you want to become a junior prefect? 4. What makes you a good candidate for the junior prefect position? (Your Qualities/Traits, Prior Leadership Experience, What You Can Contribute, etc. Anything you can tell us to help aid our decision.) 5. Do you prefer to work on a team or individually? How do you think that will help you as a staff member? 6. Would you feel comfortable contributing more than a 'yes'/'no' answer to a discussion? 7. If a situation arises where you disagree with the general consensus in a discussion, would you post your concerns, knowing that it may be rejected or possibly slow down the project, or would you keep your comments to yourself? 8. We would like you to please create a monthly den challenge or house activity and then tell us about it. (For example, but certainly not limited to: What is it about? What is required? Why did you choose it? Etc.) 9. Dealing with new students is one of the many jobs of a junior prefect. If you received the following message, what response would you give them? 10. Are you willing to allow us to assign you to where we believe you might fit best, or where we need you to be? Meaning we would choose whether you would be SPD or Den JP? Please note what your preference is, but also realize that based on needs you may not get put there. 11. Being on the Gryffindor staff means added expectations and time commitments. Figured I'd post this because I've never actually been to any big productions, aside from things related to school, or things my school put on. And I've been dying to go to things, I just can't really afford it most of the time. And here in Japan, they have some things touring, too! I'm most wanting to see the Japanese version of Beauty and the Beast. Or The Lion King. Both are here this year, but again, too expensive at the moment. So what about all of you? What are you hoping you can see?

I am horribly un-musically talented. So no, I can't play anything at all, lol. I did try to teach myself piano once, but that failed. o.O I can play things by ear if I sit down and want to try something easy, but I can't actually play. OH WAIT. I CAN PLAY THE TRIANGLE. :D >__> If I could learn an instrument it'd probably be the drums. Just seems really cool to me.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, LIONS!!! I hope each of you is having an absolutely amazing and magical day, even those who don't celebrate, or celebrate another holiday this time of year! You lions have worked so hard this year and I'm incredibly proud of all of you who have contributed, in some way or another, to helping Gryffindor be, simply put, the best house ever~ And to reward all your hard work, insanity, and overall Gryffie-ness, I, along with the help of a few very wonderful elves, put together a little gift for you this holiday season! Hope you all enjoy the new forum skin! :D :D A special note goes out to the very talented elf, Ilona Littrell, for the beautiful header. ^__^ Just a few quick notes about the new forum skin: 1. If you prefer the old one, you can simply change it back to the old one, titled "CR", down in the drop down menu in the bottom left hand corner of the forum. 2. If you find something that is hard to read or looks really bizarrely colored, etc, please let me know. Us elves have been trying to find everything, but we may have missed something. I blame the butterbeer... :P 3. You'll notice the new banner is holiday themed. But we can't have it like that all year, can we? No! Fortunately for us, the banner is easily changeable and so we will be holding some contests in the future! If you are interested, be sure to keep an eye out for that! 4. Hello again to everyone! Happy December!! With the holiday season upon us, the SPD staff thought it would be nice to have a den challenge that focused on the friendships and bonds we share as Gryffindors. And what better way to show you care about someone than to give them a specially made gift?! And so with that, the December Den Challenge Gift Exchange was born! Part 1: Your task this month is to create a special gift for each of the other two dens to showcasing how awesome they are and how much you care! Just a few notes/idea/ramblings: You must create at least one gift for each of the other two dens. The gifts do not have to be identical, meaning you can personalize them or add different parts for each den. We want these gifts to reflect your friendships, etc with the dens, so personalization is encouraged! Gifts can be personal, Gryffindor-ish, Holiday-themed, wacky and crazy... basically anything you can think of! (HOL appropriate, of course. ;) ) You can create one big gift or have several smaller items together. The gifts can be anything from forum signatures to desktop wallpapers, pink fuzzy socks to a replica sword of Gryffindor. We just ask that you provide a image for each item you give. Obviously if it is a forum signature or something, the item itself is the image. But if you come up with something super creative, draw or paint or take a photo or in some other way provide us with an image of it! You are more than welcome to give additional individual gifts to specific den members, but the main part of the challenge is to give something to the whole den, so be sure to spend most of your time on that! Part 2: We'd like you to provide a story/background/commentary for your gifts! Why exactly are giving the Mighty Manticores pink sombreros? Or why did you choose to give the Chimeras a bubble blowing machine? And what about that red unicorn decked out in Gryffindor apparel for the Griffins? Just explain why you are giving the things you are giving! Again, be creative! If you want to include this part as a story, or as a poem attached to a gift, etc, go for it! We're leaving the details of this challenge pretty open, so let your creativity go wild! You must submit your gifts (in whatever way you wish to present them) and a list of participating members by PM to Prof. Jenny Lupin by 11:59 PM HOL (6:59 PM EST (I think)) on December 30th! (After Christmas in case people disappear to spend time with family.) Once we receive them we will post a big gift exchange post so that everyone can see the gifts opened! :D To encourage you to be creative and give the best gifts possible, the SPD will be voting and participating members will receive rubies as follows: First Place Den: 25 rubies Second Place Den: 15 rubies Third Place Den: 10 rubies Have fun! (Please note that I was very sleepy when writing this, so if something is unclear, just ask! )

CONGRATS!!! Jinxy, you've done a phenomenal job this year so far, running a den by yourself and all (until help arrived!). You really deserve this award, so Congrats!!
