Hello everyone! We know it's been a while since the start of term, but for this year we have decided to do Gryfftoberfest a little differently! In the past, it's been a month full of Gryff-centric activities, for Gryff's only. This year, certain parts of Gryfftoberfest will be open up to all of HOL! We're planning on doing some of the good oldies and some new challenges as well! As you may have noticed, there are no dens this year. We'd like for all to mingle together as a group, plus it gives the staff more time to focus on activities to bring to you! So expect your Motto Contest post soon!

As of now, until I can figure out how to make absolutely sure there are no spoilers, do NOT discuss any spoilers for this ANYWHERE in the forum. If you want to discuss it, there is a subforum under the General Harry Potter forum in the main HOL forum, that has it set up so that you can post spoilers. Kim - How would one go about a coloring page? Like, I could totally take one from my kids' coloring books, scan and upload and make everyone color in photoshop or paint or something, could also have people color their own and upload...or do you know websites where coloring pages and stuff are located?

already got costumes and pumpkin carving...A theme is a good idea, but the motto, sig and avatar shouldn't be after a theme *g*...so what other ideas you girls got?

Hi everyone! As you know Gryfftoberfest is right around the corner, but this year is a little different. In order to get more activity and creativity we're looking towards you to put any and all ideas you might have for a short contest or whatever below. They might be used, they might not. But I'll give 5 beans per idea. We're still going to have the old stuff most likely, like motto, sig and avatar, poetry, pumpkin carving, and a den challenge...but I would love for some new fresh ideas to emerge! We're looking for ideas, not a complex drawn out schematic about how you want it run, because it will be run by SPD if it's chosen (you however will get credit for the idea). So let's start firing away those thoughts! Gryfftoberfest is only a few short weeks away!

I would have started attending in 1992, my bday falls just a little after the Hogwarts acceptance deadline. So I would've been 1 year behind if my math holds, so I would be in the thick of the fight. :D

It's almost October, therefore it's almost time for Gryfftoberfest! Before the actual activities begin however, we'd like to come up with a motto for this year. In the newly created area on the forum you will find a motto contest. Please participate! Immediately following the motto competition we will begin the sig and avatar contest. We do so hope you participate and have fun! There will be many more activities to come throughout the month of October, but we need your help to set the theme of this year's Gryfftoberfest!

Hello Gryffindors and welcome to another new term here at HOL and Gryffindor! We hope to have a fun filled year and hopefully do better all around than we did last year, and of course we will totally need your help in doing so. First, before we get into all the fun stuff, whether you are a new Gryffindor or a returning Gryffindor, if you have any questions, or need a reminder of the rules or help finding something that might have been moved, please visit this topic It should get you all caught up. Now this year we're going to liven things up a bit and make some changes. Throughout the year you'll get to meet the staff and your prefects and so on. In September you will be sorted into your dens by our own Prof. Dario. Whatever den you get is the den you stay in for the year, so no asking to be put in a specific den or moved dens - it won't work. Everything is done randomly for the sorting. This year we will only have two dens so that we can increase activity in the dens and so that you can meet more of your fellow Gryffindor's. This year the dens are Disney based, the idea coming from Prof. Zenix. Don't forget about the study room, where you can get help with your classwork or participate in any challenges there. There's the library, which is up and running again and some clubs and quidditch to join if you want. For you new Gryffindor's, there's the LCPP (Lion Cub Pawtner Project) that you can sign up for so that you can have an older, experienced Gryffindor buddy (and totally like an instant friend) to help show you the way when you want it or need help. It's an awesome thing to be involved with. You olbies should also go volunteer to help the new students because it's a great and rewarding thing to do, plus you'll get to make new friends. Now if I missed anything, which I more than likely did since I haven't written one of these topics in a while, I'm sure you can find it somewhere in the forums, or someone will add on to this post because our staff is on top of stuff like that. So on behalf of the Gryffindor Staff, I want to say welcome (and so does Prof. Dario - he told me to type that) and I hope you have a great and fun time this year!

As many of you know, Gryfftoberfest is all about Gryffindor pride. And when so much of HOL revolves around the use of forums, what better way to show off your pride than through your signature and avatar? This contest is all about making signatures and avatars that show Gryffindor pride. How you choose to do so is up to you. You may also make use of the winning entry for the motto contest that just ended in your graphics. But you don't have to use the motto if you don't want to. However, if you use a motto, use the official one please. Try to include "Gryfftoberfest 2013" in your graphic as well (not required though). This year's motto is: "Gryffindor - Where 2+2 most definitely does not equal 4. ********* The winning entries may then be used throughout the month of October here and on the HOL forums in place of what you usually use. Have fun all! Beans Signatures and avatars will be voted on separately by the SPD Committee to determine the top 3 for each category. -5 beans for each entry (3 maximum) -5 additional beans for 3rd place -10 additional beans for 2nd place -15 additional beans for 1st place There are 2 separate contests - signatures and avatars. So the beans count for each contest. That means submitting 3 signatures and 3 avatars will earn you 30 beans minimum, 15 for each category. Rules -All designs should be your own. Do not take them from elsewhere. -Do not customize graphics with your own name, doll, or picture. These graphics will be available for all to use. -You can send in just a signature, just an avatar, or both (though they will be judged separately). -Signatures should be at most 250 pixels in width and 100 pixels in height. And they must be less than 250 KB. -Avatars should be at most 100 pixels by 100 pixels. And they must be less than 25 KB. -All students, prefects/JPs (den or SPD), and professors may take part in this contest! I know staff members like beans too. -You may submit as many graphics as you want, but only the first 3 of each type will count for participation. All beyond 3 will still be included in voting. -Graphics need to be of appropriate rating. Nothing obscene or offensive. -Graphics should be submitted to spd@gryff.net with one of the following subject lines depending on the category: "Signature - HOL Name - HOL ID" or "Avatar - HOL Name - HOL ID" minus the quotations. Please fill in HOL Name and HOL ID with your own name and ID. The deadline to submit your graphics is October 9th at 11:59 pm HOL Time!
