It's that time of year again, time to board up and head home! The house elves will have gathered all of your belongings (presuming you remembered to pack everything up!) and it should all be settled on the train now. So get ready to say your last goodbyes to everyone you met over the past year - as this thread will be open for a week!

It had been a very successful first year. Chad had "borrowed" a broomstick from the first year shed for most of the year, and while he had taken a break from Quidditch for the last part of the year - he was really excited to get back to practicing for next year. And for whatever reason, his classes had all gone really well! He had even been top of the class in a couple of them, although he doubted his dad would believe it. Of course one of the classes was Care of Magical Creatures, so that wouldn't surprise him. Nevertheless, Chad was ready to head back home. He hadn't really met and gotten along with too many other guys his age, so being able to head home for the summer would be nice. He'd be able to play sports with some of the guys from around there - and he most looked forward to getting in a few more Quidditch games before returning.

With all that in mind, Chadwick stepped onto the Hogwarts Express and searched for an empty compartment. Hardly anyone was on the train at this point so it didn't take long at all. He found one of the larger ones - maybe he'd be able to stretch out and sleep if no one joined him - and sat down inside of it. By far what he looked forward to most was the food trolley that was certain to come soon, a fizzing whizzbee would be just what he needed to entertain him for the ride home.

Panda trudged out of the castle and pushed her way through the hustle and bustle on the platform to the train heading home. She loved her aunt and uncle tremendously, but Hogwarts was someplace special, it held a very dear part of her heart. It was her sanctuary, her place of sanity. She could do what she wanted, and people accepted her.

As she boarded the train, Panda looked around, memorizing the faces of her friends and random students she had hardly seen. It was only the end of her first year, but it felt like she would be leaving forever. Panda looked around for an empty compartment, or the face of someone she knew, until she found Chad; a First Year boy. Panda slid the door to the compartment open, and strolled in, her gait confident and lazy, but on the inside, she was nervous. Would he remember her? Would it be an awkward train ride? Panda had no idea, but she hoped not.

She plopped down on the long, cushioned bench across from the boy, and she slightly smiled, though Panda would bet a thousand Galleons it looked like a grimace.

"Hello there. My name is Pandora, like the box." She joked, cracking a real smile. "But people call me Panda. You're Chad, right? I saw you at the End of Term Feast!" Panda thought it was so cool the way he left a firecracker on the stuffy Ravenclaw's table.

Panda looked at the boy, smiling the first real smile away from her friends.

The tiny coach seemed to be pulling itself and Hedra Longstride clutched at the side of the carriage in an attempt to steel herself against any mishaps. Since the first years traditionally arrived at Hogwarts in four-seater boats, this was her first glimpse of the self-governing carriages. She'd heard rumours of the phenomenon, of course, but didn't anticipate the level of dread she would feel while inside one of these. She couldn't see how one of these contraptions could be considered a safe way to transport students to the train. Accident thwart spells all the time and it would take a very strong, cleverly devised enchantment to take the hundreds of things that could go wrong with a runaway wagon into consideration to make this a safe way to travel. Hedra decided to add this to the list of things that she disliked about traveling to and from Hogwarts... and this was turning into a very long list indeed.

The journey across the platform was tolerable. The small girl knew that she needn't make eye contact unless she chose to. It was also easy enough to push through the milling crowd that surrounded the train. Hedra was small enough to duck through the spaces between friends, lover and if that didn't work, she wouldn't think twice about putting her heavily stuffed wooden trunk down on the foot of whoever blocked her way. With a ruthless boarding gambit like that, it was no wonder tha she made her way onto the train in no time.

This was the part of the journey that Hedra really disliked. The finding of a suitable compartment wasn't the problem, since there weren't really any compartments that the young Gryffindor found unsuitable. Yes, she would think twice before wandering into a crowd of burly boys dressed in green, but other than that she really wasn't picky. The problem was that she would have to share the compartment, which inevitable lead to small talk and pleasantries. There were only a few things in life that Hedra liked less than those. While she wasn't an umpleasant person to be around, she honestly didn't see the need for forced displays of interest. To be quite frank, she didn't really care if somebody had had a good day or if they preferred rainy weather of bright sunshine. Unfortunately, these were the topics generally broached while travelling with mere acquiantances.

Hedra had passed only two compartment when she spotted two students of her approximate age, with faces that seemed more familiar than not. There was no need to look any further. With a sigh and a slight grunt, she dragged her trunk in behind her and heaved it onto one of the empty luggage racks. Without as much as a word she sat down, not waiting for an invitation or greeting of sorts. The bench stuffing was still very plush and the girl silently congratulated herself on picking a seat that hadn't been squished flat by large bottoms in previous years. Nothing was worse than having to sit on a seat that had been flattened by the weight of somebody with more than one sweet tooth, especially on such a long journey. And that was Hedra's biggest problem with Hogwarts travel: The length and duration of the trip.

"This is absolutely ridiculous," she said suddenly, crossing her arms in her lap and shifting back in her seat. "I live in Berwick-Upon-Tweed and instead of going straight there, I am now doomed to travel down to London and then all the way back up. This train ride alone takes about seven hours and then we have to beg whichever dimwit is manning Flourish and Blotts to use their grate to floo north again. I mean honestly. Is it too much to ask for a floo connection between Hogwarts and say, Newcastle? Somebody should really owl the Department of Magical Transport about this inconvenience."

With that said, Hedra glanced around at the other inhabitants in her compartment, almost daring them to disagree with her.

Panda looked over to the girl, and smirked. "I guess you do have it rough. I used to live in Norway, and I can't imagine having to make that trip. Ghaaaastly" Panda shook her head. It was times like these that she was glad that she ran away, even though the pain in her chest from leaving her father hurt her. Panda turned to her back pack, and pulled out her wand and a fairly large book. She flicked her wand at the door, muttering a few spells to lock it and close the curtain. "There," And Panda opened the book, finding her spot with her secret compartment.

She smirked. She was going to make this train ride fun for this new girl.

Lisette stifled a yawned as she boarded the Hogwarts express. Wait, what? How did she get here? Looking dazedly at her surroundings, Lisette racked her brain for an answer. She recalled going to bed late last night, stewing over being second in her year--after that Hufflepuff fudge fellow, waking up early this morning, running around her room to do some last-minute packing, dozing off in a carriage--oh right! The carriages had taken the students to the train station, although apparently, she had slept through much of that ride. Lisette frowned. Darn it. She had been SO excited to see a thestral up close too! Ah well, there's always next year, she thought.

Satisfied now that she had figured out her dilemma, Lisette continued trudging slowly along the train's hallway. She passed compartment after compartment, pausing briefly to greet a few of her friends, but she didn't completely stop until she found one that was empty. Finally. Banging the door open, Lisette quickly cast a levitation spell on her trunk and owl cage, lifted them onto a luggage rack, and organized her belongings neatly before settling into a bench. Still tired, she closed her eyes, ready to resume her nap.

“Were the heck did I leave it?” White pillows flew through the chamber, while the scarlet colored sheets were falling on the floor. Mattresses were laying half in the big four-poster beds. And underneath these mattresses you could see two legs wiggling around. A loud and irritating sound could be heard from under the mattresses. And a few minutes later an wild Asian looking girl appeared from underneath it. Her hair sat all wildly and she had a flustered expression on her face. “Why can’t I seem to find it... My precious trunk!”
Fumei fell back on one of the flipped over mattresses and sighed deep. “I know for certain that I left it at the end of my bed. How could it be gone?” Still flustered about the disappearance of her beloved trunk, Fumei left the first year dormitory. Leaving the room a huge mess as how she made it. She couldn’t care less how she left the dormitory.
As she walked through the hallway of the castle, she noticed how everything was quiet and empty. Like with almost everything, Fumei was the last the leave the castle. While walking through the ginormous empty hallways of the castle, Fumei couldn’t stop making an little hop once in a while.
Outside the castle it wasn’t as empty as Fumei had expected. Almost all the students of the school were still waiting to get themselves carried away to the Hogwarts Express. ‘Yay! for onces in a while I’m not the last one left to get somewhere!’ Fumei got a big smile on her face while she cutted in line and with one of the first carriages, she left towards the Hogwars Express.

As Fumei stepped out of the carriage that brought her to the Hogwarts Express she swiftly saw the first students entering the train. She didn’t really noticed who were already entering the train. She just walked towards it and entered the train herself. Walking through the small corridor of the train she noticed the compartment were a few of her fellow classmates saw. But she was to tired and to lazy to open the compartment door that was closed.
Fumei walked a bit further and saw an empty compartment with the door open. This meant less work for Fumei to get into the compartment. She grinned and entered the compartment, closing the door behind her.
As soon as she entered the compartment, Fumei climbed up on the luggage rack. there she didn’t had any luggage with her, since it disappeared on her. Fumei only had her eyes closed for a few minutes as she was already in a deep sleep. Fumei twisted a little and turned over to the other side she was lying on after she heard an loud bang as someone opened a door with some violence. Even though the noise didn’t wake Fumei.

Aly had been in here own little world the day they would board the Hogwarts Express. She faintly remembered grabbing all her belongings and running off to board the train. She had been missing her parents and the twerps, so she was excited to see them all again. Aly was then rudely shaken out daydreaming, when she ran into the door to one of the compartments and nearly dropped all her belongings. Afterwords, she looked around to see if anyone saw her little mishap and when she did that she noticed her good friend Liz in an open compartment. 'Oh joy!' Aly thought to herself. She then quietly walked over to where her friend was lying down peacefully and when she tried putting her bags on the luggage rack, they slipped out of her hands and fell on Liz's face. Aly, being the lazy eagle she was, just left them there hoping she hadn't waken her friend up or she knew she was in for a good smacking.

So instead of moving her things, she walked into the next compartment where she saw a few gryffindors that looked familiar so she sat down and introduced herself to all of them at once. "Hello! I'm Allyson, but I go by Aly. I believe I've seen you all before?" she said. She really hoped she wouldn't be ignored, because she already made a bold move walking into a compartment full of strangers. 'Oh dear, what did I get myself into?' she thought.

Panda watched approvingly as a bold Ravenclaw ented her current compartment, and interduced herself as Aly. 'This girl, Aly, she has spunk. I like her!' Panda thought, looking at the girl adorned in Blue and Bronze.

"Why hello there Aly, come take a seat." Panda patted the seat to the right of her, moving her book to her lap, and her wand to her left hand. Merlin, she was being awfully friendly today, what was with that? Panda smirked at Aly, hoping it didn't come across as threatening. Panda liked this Ravenclaw, she didn't seem as stuffy as the others of her kind. She just wished that Wicki and Dez were here with her. 'I bet they would like her, too.'

Destri searched her bunk hopelessly one last time. She was on the verge of tears. Where was her locket? She had gotten it from her mom, and it was a priceless to her. It was a beautiful, silver, star shaped locket, and had sapphires on the surface. Inside was a picture of her family, and Destri had refused to leave without finding it. Well, she knew she would have to leave at some point, but tried not to think about that.

Think Dez, think. Where was it the last time you had it? She grunted frustratingly. She knew she had put it on top of her trunk before she had gone to bed. She frantically searched her bunks and everywhere she could think of, from under her mattress to inside her trunk. She panicked, knowing that she would have to leave any minute now if she was going to get a good seat on the train. She plopped onto her bed, devastated, when she saw something out of the corner of her eye. She looked over to see Athena fluttering outside her window. How had she gotten out? Destri looked more closely to her, and saw something in her beak. Her locket!

That bird is going to get it if there is a single scratch on my locket! She thought angrily, and tried to coax Athena the owl into the room, to no avail. Apparently the owl was feeling particularly devious today, and started to fly away, with Destri's precious locket in her beak. Destri ran to the window and yelled out of it in frustration, saying a couple words that her mother would stick soap in her mouth for, but had no regrets. That retched bird was in huge trouble once Destri caught her. Cussing under her breath, Destri gathered her things and started heading to the train.

She squeezed her way through the crowd, occasionally shoving into people. She was in no mood to deal with people in her way until she had her locket back around her neck. Grumbling, she looked up and saw her friend Panda in one of the compartments. She didn't want to sit alone, even if she was upset, so she clumsily placed her trunk on the luggage rack. She realized that she had no way of taking her owl home unless it followed the train, which she wasn't exactly sad about. She wasn't on the best of terms with Athena, but she needed her to come home if she was going to get her locket back. Destri noticed that Chad, Hedra, and Allyson were also in the compartment, and wondered where Wicki was.

"Hi everyone," she said, making a weak attempt to sound cheerful. But that didn't stop her stomach from turning in knots and her heart from thumping. She refused to let any tears leak though, and sighed and pulled herself together before sitting down next to Allyson. She knew Aly because of some classes they had together, and they had grown close. She was one of the few Ravenclaw's she associated with, as some of them refused to talk to her just because she liked to mess around. Or maybe it was because of that dung bomb one time... but nevertheless, she was glad that her friend had decided to sit in here, thinking it was brave that she did with a bunch of intimidating students who weren't in the same house as her.

Aly watched as her friend Destri walked into the compartment and was grateful that she really knew at least one person in the compartment and also Panda seemed awfully nice. She sighed as she watched her friend, looking a bit forlorn, walk in and plop down next to her. She made a note to ask Destri about it later, but for now she needed to figure out what to do in a compartment full of Gryffindors. Then, she remembered she left her things on Liz's face! She quickly told everyone she'd be right back and ran back to Liz's compartment. She then picked up her things and threw them onto the luggage rack where she could have sworn she heard a groan, pushing the thought out of her mind she raced back to Destri's compartment and plopped down again.

"Hi everyone I'm back! Sorry, I managed to drop my things on my friend, so I had to pick them up and put them away before she'd hex me into oblivion!" she rambled. She decided she should shut up before she ended up talking a little too much.

As Dez sat next to Aly, and Aly got up quickly, before coming back and explaining about her trunk, Panda pulled a muggle lighter out of her hollowed out book, then stuffed the book back into her backpack. Panda found muggle things to be facinating, and her two favorite things were lighters and duct tape. With her wand, Panda cast a simple fire proof charm on her arms and hand, stored her wand in her robe, and lit her left hand on fire.

Due to the charm, the fire only felt like a slight tingling sensation, and panda made sure to keep the fire from getting out of control. The fire was only on her finger tips, a flame dancing on each of her fingers, the orange and yellow light flickering as it twirled, fire was like herself. Dangerous when left alone, graceful, and extremely hot headed. Panda had a firey temper, like fire, and never in her life had she not shown it.

Panda was bored, that was why she lit her hand on fire. Only because she didn't have a broom to take apart. Hers was at the bottom of her trunk, under a load of junk and clothes. Panda didn't even know where her trunk was, she was so busy trying to get onto the train. she had left it somewhere. 'Oh well,' Panda thought, smiling fondly at her recklessness, or what her dad would say about it.

Wicki sighed as she waited to get on the train. She had been aimlessly walking around the castle, beginning with a purpose, but losing the thought quickly. She started twirling her bracelet round her wrist, when the line in front of her quickly boarded the train. "Well, how convenient!" she said, lugging her trunk to the train.

The hardest part was finding a compartment. She couldn't seem to find her friends anywhere, so she threw her luggage up on a rack inside a compartment that was vacant, laid down on the seat, and quickly was snoring. This is so uncomfortable. Wicki thought as she fell deeper into unconsciousness. She woke up quickly, unsatisfied, and took a while to play with her hair. The red tips were fading again. "Remind me to redye these when I get home, okay?" she whispered to herself.

Wicket finally put her hair up in a pony tail and leaned against the wall, looking out the window. "Lets get this load moving, please?" she muttered, mostly to herself, but partially to the train.

Anneliese bumped through the moving train clumsily, still winded from sprinting up the steps of the Hogwarts Express, since she had almost left her book in the common room. She clutched her bag to her chest, which was still spilling with class books that no one else had brought home and obviously no one had actually read. "I really need to get a new bag," she mumbled to herself, half tripping through the corridor, with one arm around her Sherlock book and the other around a rip in her bag.

Stumbling, she yanked open a random compartment door and partially collasped onto the bench, her bag finally deciding that it was sick of Anneliese's constant abuse of it. Looking across the aisle, she spotted Wicket, a girl she didn't exactly know, gazing outside. Well, considering Anna didn't know half the people in the common room, she sighed quietly and considered moving, but hesitated because of her stupid, stupid bag. "Well might as well try making friends," she thought to herself. "Even if it's on the...what, last day of school?"

Uprighting herself and making an attempt to look presentable and not utterly frazzled, she steadied Larkskye's cage with a few retorting hoots and flapping, and tapped zoned-out Wicket on the shoulder, lightly. She heard Wicket mumble something, but didn't hear what she said. Awkwardly, she stuck out the hand not holding a book. "Hey," she greeted quietly.

Hedra couldn't help but smile at the sympathy of her fellow Gryffindor. Norway was indeed quite a bit further away and would probably need a flight or two as well. Unless one could apparate or have access to a portkey, of course. The thought of both of these made Hedra squirm in her seat. Portkeys were interesting, but she didn't enjoy the sensation of falling, so the letting go part usually ended up being a bit of a problem. Apparition was out of the question. Hedra had only been forced to do side-along apparition once and she avoided food for days afterwards. Ghastly, as the other girl had said. Still, she sort of wished that she'd had either of those options available for getting home. While meeting other people was usually interesting, Hedra longed to be at home where she could do as she pleased and wear what she wanted. She was even curious to see if her mum had bought her yet another tarot deck!

Her fellow passenger took a book from her bag and Hedra furrowed her brow slightly as the door was locked. The spell seemed to be ineffective, because it wasn't long before a Ravenclaw that introduced herself as Aly and Destri Weasley wandered into the compartment. Hedra couldn't help but stare at the Ravenclaw girl. While she'd managed to secure quite a few friends during the year, she only knew one or two Ravenclaws and they were defnitely not this bold. For some reason, the house of Rowena seemed fascinating. Hedra had always seen school and learning as a means to an end. She knew it was a necessary evil, which is why she learned what she had to tried not to flunk out of any subjects along the way. There were even one or two classes that she actually liked and excelled in. Ravenclaws were different, though. According to what she had heard, they found the entire learning process pleasurable, regardless of which subjects they took. Hedra couldn't imagine what it would feel like to enjoy learning for the sake of learning, like the girl now sitting opposite to probably did.

"I am Hedra," she said quietly, still keeping her eyes fixed on the face of the girl. After another second or two she reckoned that it was probably rude to stare, so she lowered her eyes briefly.

"Are there any really good spells in there?" she asked the girl with the muggle lighter as she pointed at the book on her lap. "Spells on how to cast a patronus or create a portkey? Do you think they will ever teach us this stuff, or will we be stuck with learning how to let random pieces of fruit jiggle?"

'I wonder where Wicki is,' Panda thought as she played with the fire on her fingertips. With her hand that wasn't on fire, Panda opened her backpack, and found her secret pocket. Her uncle had cast an undetectable extending charm on it, and inside there were suitable living conditions for life. From the bag, she pulled a small kitten. Panda stroaked her kitten's head lovingly, and whispered in her ear to find Wicki and bring her to Panda's compartment. As Panda's kitten, Luma scurried out of the compartment, Panda noticed the girl Hedra, speaking.

"Are there any really good spells in there? Spells on how to cast a patronus or create a portkey? Do you think they will ever teach us this stuff, or will we be stuck with learning how to let random pieces of fruit jiggle?" She asked and pointed at the book on Panda's lap.

"Oh yes! My father gave it to me when I got my wand," Panda lifted her ebony eirloom, "It has all sorts of spells!" Panda blew out the flickering flames on her hand, and waved her wand over the cover of the thick bound book. When she opened it, the book's pages weren't stuck together to create a hiding place, they were neat, handwritten pages, written in Norweigen. "He wrote it himself, you see. Though it doesn't have spells on patronus or portkeys, mostly on the creation of magic, and many spells that he has created himself. They're very useful!" Panda nodded her head.

Destri listened to the conversation between Hedra and Panda, but didn't bother to insert herself into the conversation. She wasn't listening to closely, as she was half-heartedly trying to make flames so she could do the same thing Panda did, and thinking about how she was going to get her locket back.

"He wrote it himself, you see. Though it doesn't have spells on patronus or portkeys, mostly on the creation of magic, and many spells that he has created himself. They're very useful!" Panda said, nodding her head.

Destri's head shot up. "Do you have any spells that could help me get my owl to come back? I guess I could try the accio charm, but I haven't really mastered it yet..." Destri said, blushing. She tried to sound casual when she asked, but she probably sounded way to enthusiastic than what would be considered normal. "She flew away with something important to me, and I need to find her fast. But it would be impossible to search the grounds... I would never find her. I need to find some kind of spell!" Destri said frustratingly in a flash of anger, then took a deep breath. "Sorry, I'm just a little bit stressed, if you can't tell."

Panda wasn't shocked at her friend's question, in fact, in some odd way, she was expecting it. From the moment Dez trudged into the compartment, with the gloom and sullen look on her face, Panda knew that it was from something bigger than going home for the Summer Holidays.

"Hmmmmm..." Panda said, flipping through the pages of her book, skimming each page of curly, foreign, handwritten text. "Hmmmmmm...." She said again, shoving her nose into the book, reading what looked to be very small print. "It seems that my mother," Panda made a face, "devised a spell to call your owl or pet back to you, it doesn't seem that hard, but it takes a lot of concentration. Do you want to try it?" Panda asked, looking up from her book, and glanced eagerly at Dez. "Though, if we get it wrong, well...." Panda trailed off.

Panda loved risks, but it wasn't her risk to take, and she knew a lot of the spells in her book forwards and backwards. Though Panda wasn't given to many lessons on this spell, for one, she hated her mother, and two, her pheonix was attatched to her. They knew where each other was at all times. Nobody in Panda's family would have thought that she would run away and end up going to Hogwarts.

"Hello there. My name is Pandora, like the box." Chad snapped up at the new company. "Hello" he replied quickly - she remembered him from the End of Term feast and Chad wasn't sure how to react. Maybe she had seen him put that firecracker out there, but if she hadn't, he didn't want to bring it up. "Yea I remember you too," he nodded, "You're really good with charms." Chad tried not to sound too jealous of this fact - he enjoyed Charms, but hadn't paid all that much attention to it so far in his schooling. After watching her change the tapestries colors though, he thought he should definitely focus on it more next year.

Before he could continue though, another girl entered the compartment. She started to go on about how the train should take little stops here and there to let people off closer to their homes. Chad narrowed his eyes, clearly this girl was crazy. That would make the train take double the amount of time to get back to London at least! But judging by the look on her face, Chad thought he should let her keep scheming and merely nodded in her direction after the Panda girl spoke to her.

Soon that wild type Ravenclaw from the End of Year feast, and Destri appeared in the compartment. Unicorn horns, Chad groaned in his head, this room was becoming infested with girls, Why does this always happen to me? Something did catch his interest though, "You dropped your things on your friend?" he questioned. After the maniac hand waving he had witnessed at the feast he didn't want to put too much past this one, but nevertheless, dropping items on someone considered to be a "friend" seemed a bit extreme.

The conversation soon turned to spells as Chad watched the Panda girl...light her hand on fire. That could not be safe. Chadwick was pretty sure he would punch someone in the face if they suggested lighting his own hand on fire - let alone willingly doing it on his own. What if it didn't work and he burnt his hand so badly he would have to not play Quidditch for a while! Not a risk he was willing to take. Hedra, as he then found out was her name, changed the subject to other cool spells, and despite inching away from Panda, he was intrigued.

"I bet next year we'll learn how to move objects around! My mom uses it all the time when she's setting up parties. I think it's called locomotion, but I don't know the spell yet." Right after saying this he wondered if all the other students already knew this spell and he was going to be behind, but he certainly hoped not. He noticed that Panda was soon shooting off another fancy spell to get your pet to come back and he started to scowl at her. What a show off, he huffed in his mind.

This time though, Chad had something valuable to add to the conversation. "I don't know any spells, but whenever I need our trained owls at home, I just write a fake letter. When I'm done writing it, my owls always seem to know I'm waiting for them and they appear! That or I just shove around some owl treats..." he faded off, unsure if anyone was going to listen to him ramble on about pets.

Panda looked up at the boy, Chad, who finally spoke up. Looking to him, Panda saw some envy before it flashed away. 'That's odd, it's not like I can do all of these spells!' She thought before Chad spoke up, giving a far better idea than Panda's risky spell. Even if Panda loved risks, she didn't want to put Dez's bond with her owl in danger.

"Hmmmm..." Panda said, pretending to conptenplate Chad's idea of writing a letter. She tapped her chin with her wand, "I think that could work! Great idea Chad!" Panda closed her book and stashed it back in her backpack, making sure not to squish her things.

Panda turned to Dez, and smiled.
